I have watched the game twice and realised that although this was the best we have played in a long time for four quarters, collingwood were horrible.

The thing is we played so bloody well and our game plan was perfect yet we only one by 23 points. This leads me to belive that we have a long long long way to go...

We still turned over the ball alot today..

Waite, Russel, Gibbs and Carrots all cost us at one stage...

We will not get anywhere until we control our dispoal.

On a whole fantastic and the best win I have ever experienced but .. there is alot more work to do...

go the blues.. through bad and good bluejudd is there

just for the record no way am i damaging waite and gibbs game today they were great... but simple skill era's nearly killed us..

gibbs is not soft, how about those tackles? brilliant!

Close thread we're making the finals this year..:D

Nah I see your point.....waite turned the ball over so many times today! But he still had a pretty good game....killed rocca...

JR turned the ball over a bit.

I thought gibbs was sensational today, he may have turned the ball over a couple of times but he created so many forward thrusts for us with his chasing and unbelievable tackling!

Im still a bit worried about carrots as that defensive backman

Good to see scotland find a bit of form

Lets just enjoy the win, all players make mistakes, but we are a young side and a win like that will only make the players more confident and show them that carlton are on there way back.

i am enjoying the win as the next blue... but i dont want us to get premature.... i dont want to hear finals talk..

there is alot of work to be done and a few hard losses to come.

Gibbs was briliant today and probably the best quarter of footy i have seen out of him, he is all class.

All I am trying to suggest is that players like russel and carrots and co let us down in disposal when it it really counts...

i loved russels endevour today...
but if endevour ever counted for anything melbourne would be on top of the ladder...

all i am saying is that some hard decisions need to be made to keep this ball rolling

Yeah it was a great win but time to move on now...lets concentrate next week on melbourne who will be playing their heart out for their first win,

Changes in the side will depend on matchups....i dont know if we'll change to much

I am not getting carried away but those filth supporters are goingt o get a flogging this week at work.

Yeah the Pies looked horrible but l put a lot of that down to our pressure on their ball carriers. Dont forget we made a lot of mistakes too. Whilst some weer dumb l can live with these if they as a team can learn from them.

We learnt / improved from last week when we tried to play tempo footy but couldnt sustain it, yesterday we were great at it.

Look at Hadleys game yesterday what a great example to the younger players in the team. A hard strong body who was in and under and feeding the ball out. Strong overhead, tackles well and presents all teh time what a great pickup for a young team.

I think the reason we're getting carried away is, we had some bad moments and once we iron them out how scary will our team be.

It's all about confidence and think of what playing in an 80000 crowd against the filth did for our young boys!

Gibbs first kick out was prob just out of awe for the occassion and he moved on and learnt from it.

Bower, Grigg, Kreuzer, Murphy, Jamison would of had chills up their spine all game!

Murphy matured even more during that game... we've seen it coming over the last few weeks, but his decision and ability now to clear himself and run and give himself space... tissue moments!

Our backline is gelling, and thank god we never lost Thornton!

We won... and Stevens and Judd were not the standouts and Eddie and Fisher were relatively quiet too!

Imagine what it'll be like when Judd, Stevens, Fev, Eddie, Waite, Fish, Hadley, Kreuzer, Murph, Gibbs, Cloke, Thornton, Jamison, Walker, Scotland, Houlihan etc are all playing close to their best at the same time.

Have faith my friends.... I think our mindset is different now.. Judd knows it's one win as does Ratts and they'll be now focusing the boys on getting two in a row.

We gotta beat Melbourne cos after seeing Eddie cry yesterday, I need to see Gary Lyon follow suit!

there is alot more work to do...

over the long term, yes. but for now, we just have to be a little bit better next week. the work ethic is needed in all 22 rounds (+ finals) and the skills and plans need to be a little bit better each week.

I agree it's great to finally get a win after so long but some of the rubbish I have been reading on this board is like we have just won a Grand Final. It was great to see them actually put in 4 quarters but we still have a long long way to go before we can compete with the champions teams. We are still a bottom 4 team so lets not get too carried away with one win.

Actually we're not at the moment :)

Without getting carried away, yesterday's win could be a turning point for a few of our players. It confirms for them that they're on the right track and rewards the effort they're putting on the track and the discipline involved in correct preparation etc

Bearing in mind that we could have won any of our first 3 games if we had the confidence and nous that we'll probably gain from yesterday's win, and we could all of a sudden start winning regularly. I think it's pretty obvious that we have a group of players that is capable of winning games, what's been lacking is the know-how and confidence.

Silly thread ..we can get as carried away as much as we like ..after all our team just ended a record losing streak by defeating our arch rivals, so just let everyone savour the moment and bask in it's sweetness.

And as for Collinwood having an ordinary day ...don't you think that can be put down to our players ever present pressure and intensity at the ball carrier .
Our players set the scene early with some bone jarring tackles..and did not let up all game . Just saying the pies were down on the day ...takes so much away from our team that it really annoys me .

Both team made mistakes..but you will get that with young players .

We were the better team on the day ALL ____ing day...so celebrate long and hard Blues fans !!!

As for the rest of the season ..lets just wait and see, a little improvement every game and i will be happy .

Now where was i ....oh thats right ..Dah De Dah De Dah...we are the Navy Blues ..

I reckon Simmo found some good form. That mark at the city end was fantastic. He wasnt alone.

You cant buy confidence and our boys will have an extra bounce in the step this week. The belief in one another is growing and the wheels of motion are beginning to turn down at M.C labour.

I dont wanna be too cocky but we should beat melbourne, i would of expected a win there even if we lost to the Pies. Then the crows at the dome the following week. We could go 3-3. :thumbsu:

this is the first game of the season i didnt watch or listen to on the radio and we won . guess im not gonna watch them for the rest of the season maybe we will win more

we need to back it up with another win this week. Don't get me wrong I was absolutely wrapped with the win but we undo all our good work if we don't win this week.

What really irks me is the supporters that think the Pies had a bad day??

Watch them against Richmond last week... Richmond had one bad quarter and from that point on were fairly even with the pies.

Richmond beat them in clearances and in the middle....

If Richmond could beat them in the clearances, to me it was obvious that with Steven, Hadley and Judd getting better by the week and Murphy playing great and a better performance by Carazzo, Simpson and we'd kill them in the middle. Especially with Cloke hungry and Kreuzer being classy to assist with tap outs.

Footy is a funny game.. but I think C'wood may have a few more losses in them over the next few weeks.

Yeah, its a good point. Everyone is saying the pies played terribly and they weren't at their best. But no one is saying that the reasons for this was because of our well executed game plan that shut down their run. Our tackling was top notch, and our pressure all over the ground was the best effort we have seen from our guys for about a year.

In many cases you can only play as well as they oposition lets you play, and i dont think we gave them much hope of playing well.

I Was Looking at the Ladder and if We beat Melbourne which we should and if Essendon loses to St.kilda or vice versa and hawks beat Brisbane which they should we could jump up a few rungs and if the Bulldogs beat Richmond who knows ;) were on the way up :) we only need to string a few wins in arow and were back in action proves if we can beat a top 8 final side we should beable to win more games we should beat Adelaide which would be good and WCe as well after both losing
Melbourne will be under alot of Pressure trying to avoid getting the Woodenspoon so we better not take it to easy on them with them taking it right up to Geelong last week but good to get the 4 Points and away from near the the Bottom ;)

The Pies weren't good but make no mistake: they weren't good because the Blues didn't LET them be good.

This was such an overdue and most of all DESERVED win. These guys have been plugging away, trying so hard, they really really did themselves proud to hold their nerve and get over the line.

Fevola was utterly brilliant. What an amazing performance. His pressure to set up Grigg's sealer was inspiring stuff... but all day he'd found a goal whenever we needed one.

I'm not getting ahead of anything. We're still a weak side in the competition. We're not a finals side, we have miles to go. But take absolutely nothing away from THIS win. The Blues won and deserved to do so. No excuses for the Pies. They were beaten by a young, committed, desperate team who tried so so hard.

Anyone else not actually able to celebrate at the final siren? I have to admit I was a bit too emotional.... So relieved.

i am enjoying the win as the next blue... but i dont want us to get premature.... i dont want to hear finals talk...

...and I don't wanna hear people telling me not to get too carried away when I'm trying to savour the enjoyment of our first win in MORE THAN TEN MONTHS!!!

I'm totally with Blues Man here, and I take my hat off to his yellow card which he presumably obtained on the Collingwood board :thumbsu:

Just one minor correction Blues Man:

Now where was i ....oh thats right ..Judd-da dada dada...Judd-da dada dada...we are the Navy Blues ..
