After being on the fringe last year, I, and I'm sure others would have had doubts about Jetta's long term future in the side.

All I can say is I was wrong to doubt, Jetta's form this year has been amazing, he is probably in our top 3 form players for the year with Parker and Kennedy.

So here is a toast to Jetta, has put in the work, and is playing 2 way football with repeat efforts, and rightfully reaping the rewards, I look forward to more of it all season.

Didn't want to draft him, was a bit miffed when we did, spent the next two years trying to be positive whilst dying a little inside every time someone stepped past him, gave up a chase after a few steps or he skied a ball with no direction.

It's not as bad as it's made out to be, being wrong.

Sometimes.

I thought he wouldn't play a game this year on last seasons form, I'm glad I was wrong.

He will have to step up further as a fast outside player with Rohan's injury. The improvement he has made this year tells me he'll do his best to!!

Jetta for the Coleman!! :D

In addition to all the documented off-season work he had with Kieren, I think another subtle change has allowed him to flourish. In his first year and most of the second, he started off the wing but so far this year they've used him as part of the forward 5 or 6. This helps him as he plays closer to goals and not so much up the ground, especially at the SCG where you can get sucked back into your defensive 50 where he struggles, or used to, at contested situations.

Kudos to the coaching staff for sticking with him and now they're starting to reap the rewards.

Jetta's rise makes Rohans injury slightly more tolerable. We need outside speed to compliment our traditional inside strengths. Jetta playing another 20+ games the way he's played the first 4 of the season is one of the biggest keys to having a legit top 4 year.

It feels like he's only started to understand how good he can be.

Man I'm loving the way Jetta is playing this year, you know something exciting is going to happen when he is near the ball.

I'll stick my hand up and admit that at the end of last season I was convinced that he'd be nothing more than an occasionally brilliant, mostly frustrating and inconsistent player who'd be in and out of the side.

I publicly wrote Jetta off last year. I called him useless and said I never wanted to see him in a red and white jumper again. And so far he's embarrassed me this year.

Definitely improved significantly, and he's playing very well.

If he can continue this form for the rest of the year, that's practically a huge bonus for us.

If he improves even further, and turns those 15 possessions a game into 25 possessions a game, he'll be one of our best.

Yep. That's the next step for him to take. But I wouldn't be expecting him to take it too soon. He's only just really improved from a bit-part player who was being gifted games to a really, really good contributor.

If he plays like this for the rest of the year (averaging around 15 touches but kicking goals and laying tackles as he is), he'll be top 10 in the B&F.

My confidence in him was waning very badly towards the end of last year. I hadn't completely lost faith and thought he could turn it around but I certainly didn't see this start to the season coming.

Ive always been a fan you can just see his skill its sublime on both sides of his body, his balance is awesome, Id like to see him use his opposite side more but his pace seems to get him out of trouble... He is now 11.2 for the season thats equal with Buddy Franklin and 2 off the leaders. I also gotta add those 2 behinds were pretty spectacular, one was from running half the ground taking 5 bounces and his legs were heavy and he shanked it. Cant quite remember the other one.
An interesting thing about his form drop last year, I was listening to Kirk and he was explaining how the coaching staff had instructed him to work on his defensive side.. He did this and threw everything into it to the detriment of his assets, he needed to get the balance right. I think we are seeing the rewards now.
He doesnt need alot of possies to cause damage, yesterday he got 92% eff.

Go Jetta...:thumbsu:

Yep. Just needs 8-13 touches to have a big impact on the game. He should get to the point where he's getting 20 or so a game but let's not get ahead of ourselves.

His other behind was a shot from 50 on the run against Freo at the SCG. Got a little handpass from Goodes and he should have kicked it really.

i wonder if his form in 2012 is connected with the persistence of longmire in playing him in 2011? he got plenty of match experience despite the cries for him to be dropped last year and i wonder if he would be showing the rich vein of form he is in now if he was in and out of the team last year? what do you think?

I don't know what we did to him over the offseason that has completely changed everything he is doing on a football field but I've never been so glad to be wrong about a guy...

Does show just how much of this game is mental as he obviously hasn't changed anything physically..

My favourite moment was the free kick against Harvey where Jetta went in with genuine intent, the flashy stuff he has always done but this the 4th game in a row where he has actually done something that made me happy to see, I don't even care that it was a free kick, it was what it represented that mattered!

That soccered goal was awesome as well though :)

Jetta isn't going to start getting 25 possessions - not on a regular basis - without significant changing the role he plays. And I don't think we want him to. Players who regular rack up that number of possessions get many of them on the inside. We want Lewis to contest the ball when it's his turn, and to tackle and chase. But mostly we want him to use his pace to get into positions where he can receive the ball from a Kennedy, Parker or Hannebery and go charging down the wing.

A dozen possessions of the type he is currently getting is far more valuable than 25 possessions of a different type because we have plenty of players far better at those kind of possessions.

Fitness and confidence - the two most important factors in turning an OK player into a very good one.
