192cm, got some pace, nice kick, beautiful hands and a pure CHF. I think he's our man for pick 8 :thumbsu:

Discuss.

I like him, but we have a ruck crisis coming up. Gus doesnt look upto it and Pattison is too small and doesnt have the leap for a no. 1 ruckmen. So if we get Warnock for our second rounder we can look at Johnston, otherwise we need to draft one now and hope Simmonds holds up for another 3 years.

If we get Warnock then with pick 8 why not Jordan Lisle.

We're always banging on about a big CHF. Johnston is shorter than Jack and Cleve.
Im not inclined to use No 1 picks on ruckman, it's been done to death but refer to leading ruckman in comp , they were all nurtured from lower pix..a waste investing such a high one...Go for a KPP
Spot on. Ruckmen are made, not born. The 3 of the best ruckmen in the league in Cox, Sandilands and Campbell came off the rookie list.

Johnstone could be a massive talent, I really hope we get him. He will be a star and complete our list providing our depth midfielders step up.

Recruiting ruckmen with top 10 picks are proven to be a 50% chance of failure.

Still would like to have Vickery, but I'm always wary of drafting ruckmen early no matter who they are (unless it's a top 2 pick like Ottens, Fraser or Kreuzer).

agreed that 192cm is questionably tall. does anyone have any vids of him?

if ziebell were to last til 8 id love to get him in a guernsey. just a real workhorse to compliment lids cotch and foles.

In order of who we should go for for our pick 8:

1. Zeibell (very unlikely to be there)
2. Vickery (depends on if Port picks him up.)
=3. Lewis Johnstone
=3. Sidebottom
=3. Trengrove

Of the three that are almost certian to be there at pick 8 I would be happy with any of these. Unless we pick up Vickery with our pick 8 we should be going for Roughead with our pick 26.

But taller than Pavlich
Well obviously if he's half as good as Pav, height means very little. But really I think we need a genuinely big CHF to complement Cleve, Jack and Mitch.

is underaged so could very well still grow a bit

be interesting to see his measurements come draft camp time
i too would prefer lewis johnston

From memory Lewis Johnson is bottom age kid a young 17 year old, therefore he has potential to grow a couple of cm which would take him to 194cm.

that's correct...born march 1991...almost a year younger than cotchin....hopefully still some growth yet....interesting to see the draft camp measurements...194+ would be great....has great hands and leap too i think....

Firstly, don't say "if we get Warnock" because we would need to empty the draft pick coffers to get him. (Freo's days of accepting shiny rocks and pick 58's are over). So if we did sell our proverbial soul to get him, we'd **** ourself up for the future. Not worth it.
Secondly, Zeibell won't be there at pick 8. Get over it people. A miracle would need to occur for that to happen. We don't get miracles. Let's not use our no1 pick on a ruckman, it usually ends in tears plus we could do with another KPF.

I like him and would prefer we spent pick 8 on him or a Mid.
I am keen pn Vickery but ruckmen are just too risky at a young age for such an early pick.

Does sound pretty good.
We will take him at pick 8 if he is the best playuer available.
We are looking pretty good for the future at the moment, but we are hardly world beaters either with flags assured so we are not in a position to be picking for our neebs.
Take the best player available

I don't think best palyer available is a good way to look at it.We have such a hole in the key Forward/ Ruck / Tall department that if we're going for best a they should fall into one of these catergories.

If their is a midfielder available that is much better then one of the talls, I would be disgusted if they took the tall.
Someone like Hartlett or Zeibell slide to us, we take them and worry about a foward in the second round

Lewis Johnston's higlights on youtube are very impressive. Looks like he will be a very good CHF. Seems to be the kind of player who makes an impression and doesn't wait for the game to come to him. Something which Cleve does seem to do sometimes. I sighted him once in the second half of the Cobourg elimination final! Looks to be athletic and a footballer with a clean pair of hands. Lewis Johnston would be a great addition to the list.

The supposed holes we have in the key forward stakes are not so clear. Dean Putt was Calder's leading goal kicker and took the 3rd most contested marks in the TAC cup last year playing as a forward. He tests like Kruezer in terms of speed and agility and he may proove to be a very effective key forward along with Cleve and JR with Collard and Morton at their feet.

Gourdis is also an option as a key forward if his kicking improves or has improved.

I agree with Coughlan - if Hartlett or Ziebel are left then we cannot look past them. Doubtful but who knows. Some confusion might happen if Naitanui slides. Remeber last year we picked up Rance at pick 18 and nobody thought that would ever happen.

I would take Johnston followed by Sidebottom. Steele Sidebottom is a vic boy, finds plenty of it, has time and space and uses the ball well. Kicking skills should be paramount in our drafting.

In terms of Ruckman. Trade Shulz for Griffen or trade him for a second round pick. Use one of our second round picks to pick up best available ruck left. In the mid 20's this could be Jordan Roughead.

The crows may also be interested in Danny Meyer and Dean Polo's worth should be found out with picks hard to come by with the Gold Coast coming in.

Trades will have to be made if Collins and Casserly are going to stay. Although i am not confident for them.

Here is what I hope happens, firstly try and land either Griffen or Warnock during trade week for our second round pick & perhaps a player as well.

This means we can focus on getting a CHF with pick 8 and Johnston would be a good get. If we fail to land one of the ruckmen from trade week, we can then look at using pick 26 to target either Andrew Browne or Roughead.

For those of you who don't know about these 2 here are some details:
Andrew Browne Ruck – 202cm 106kg – a very very big boy who in a few years should make an impact as a good tap ruckman.
Jordan Roughead – Ruck – 199cm 87kg - a nice ruck prospect who is able to go forward.

Otherwise get Vickery(if available) and then hope either Lisle or McKernan slide to our second round.

are you saying you saw lewis at a coburg game?

this could be a sign that we are keen on him.

I've been reading a book called "the draft" by Emma Quayle

it follows the storys of Cotchin, Rioli, McEvoy,Brad Ebert and Vezpremi and they talk alot about the clubs wining and dining them and also inviting them to games to get to know them to better determine if they wanted to draft them.

Very good book so far! anyone interested in the draft or who has a man crush on Trent should definatley get it.
