I remember a very skinny tall 17 year old forward for the Dogs taken with a late pick in the late eighties who kicked 50 in his debut yearI wouldn’t throw the kid to the wolves - it’s unnecessary especially given his slight build.
He’s a “break glass in emergency” option IMO.

Chris Grant. Didn’t hinder him long term being exposed to men early
Rather those odds than the odds of Darcy Cameron ever being anything other than a good state leaguerTrue - but for every Chris Grant there are 20 other failures

True - but for every Chris Grant there are 20 other failures
Yes but did they fail because they were exposed early. Doubt it.
Think the idea that early exposure will ruin a player is a myth.
what is the harm in waiting till he’s more physically ready?
May delay his development.
I think it varies on the individual. Some kids thrive on early exposure whilst some just get their confidence smashed and end up conservative players who don't take the game on. Its about personality type.Yes but did they fail because they were exposed early. Doubt it.

The theory that developing a player in the VFL until they’re ready hurts their development is also a myth.May delay his development.
I think you’re a little harsh on Cameron. He has only played 10 games but has shown he can take a good grab. I think he’ll surprise you.Rather those odds than the odds of Darcy Cameron ever being anything other than a good state leaguer
Yeah, I think he could already be a competent first ruck.I think you’re a little harsh on Cameron. He has only played 10 games but has shown he can take a good grab. I think he’ll surprise you.

On the flip side, he’s been in the system for how many years now? And he has only played 10 games...I think you’re a little harsh on Cameron. He has only played 10 games but has shown he can take a good grab. I think he’ll surprise you.
Not to mention the game was completely different 30 years ago so I think it would be wiser to look at his contemporaries. Cameron is the only 18-19 yo to play consistently good footy as a KPF in the past 2 decades. He kicked just shy of 30 in his debut year and was in the system from the age of 17.* I think that might be a more reasonable high end to hope for than the 50 goal debut season from Grant.
As to when he debuts if he keeps hitting the scoreboard at VFL level he’ll get a chance, but we aren’t picking him out of nowhere so to speak. I’m neither here nor there on what it means for his development because he’ll play when the coaching group think he’s ready.
*Hogan kicked 44 in his debut year, but he was 20 and in his 3rd year with Melbourne.
Lots of injuries at the Swans. Problem for him is that he's an AFL competent ruckman I think, but is playing as a forwardOn the flip side, he’s been in the system for how many years now? And he has only played 10 games...
Yeah, I think he could already be a competent first ruck.
Wouldn’t liken him to Leroy more a Hale typeAgreed, for me he is a ruck who is handy up forward, but for me Cameron's main problem is Cox and the lack of a Collingwood forward structure.
If we had a genuine gun mobile 40-50 goal a year KPF , a handy B grade CHF (Checkers), then Cameron could play 3rd tall/2nd ruck, would be good for a goal a game, and would be a threat cause he can take a nice contested mark, would give Grundy a chop out in the ruck, and we'd all be saying what a handy role player he is and likening him to David Hale or Leigh Brown.
The problem is that at Collingwood there is no gun KPF so we expect our rucks to be genuine KPF rather than 3rd tall, and thats a very tough gig when you are a genuine ruckman. The only two ruckman I can think of historically who were good enough to be genuine KPFs are early Salmon, and Peter Moore. The likes of the. Kings and Daniher might change that....OF course all these same arguments equally apply to Coxy, and there isnt room for both of them To play one ruckman as a KPF may be regarded as a misfortune, to play two ruckman in both KPF positions looks like carelessness
Franklin is another, but they are rare in these days of mass congestion. Not to mention the game was completely different 30 years ago so I think it would be wiser to look at his contemporaries. But likely played AFL footy for similar numbers of years so maybe it is.
They are obviously more talented than Cox, but they don't perform better than him yet. Are they more talented than Daniher and Hogan?
Grundy has a flag.More flags than Grundy?
He did.Dermie - played around 40 games in the 2nds before getting a game in the seniors. Haw delay exposing young kids to early so it’s no risk at all.
He did.
Remind me, what was the playing list cap back then?
Yeah......
