Have to agree with the Oxx in that the most disturbing part of all of last night was Lid's performance and how little it appeared he cared.

Make no mistake everybody who knows a little bit about the game would all agree that he has the exact tools to make it as an elite AFL player. If he doesnt he will have wasted his ability.

I am almost certain that the one thing Lids lacks is the the most important tool to be a Voss/Ablett/Hird/Judd. He simply doesnt appear to care and have that bulldog in him that separates these blokes from the rest of them.

I can't help but see him being complacent with being a good solid AFL player, when in fact he should become one of the greats. Discuss.

I think your confusing passion with intensity. Intensity is generally a sign of a poor fitness base. Fact of the matter is every single Tiger out there last night looked 2 cogs short of fitness. You had ran out of puff 15 mins into the first quarter. Not his fault the coaches dont implement a strong enough fitness program for them

it's a bit hard to tell how much he cares from the stands

with all respect madtiger have you played alot of footy? because I would argue you can tell plenty from the stands...... no desire or intensity in the tackles, no initiative from non ball carriers to make it easier for the bloke with the pill, no prick patting anyone on the back for good efforts (albeit not many worthy opportunities but I have never seen a team with less arse tapping than the tiges) all this says alot about how much a bloke cares about contributing and winning.

for all Jacko's flaws at least he looks like he cares, same could be said for Jack, White, Richo and Foley. Just wish Lids had a bit more of that in him.

Agree to a degree, but I wouldnt mind betting that Lids' fitness base would rival the elite in the league.

I agree roostertalk.

Great athlete, should be an elite player and every chance he will be.

He just didn't show much heart last night. Lacked desire to bust his gut for his mates and thats probably more important than skills and fitness and footy smarts.

Just because he's one of the fittest at Richmond doesn't mean he'd be one of the fittest in the league.

Cousins has already shown the boys how hard you have to work to be the best. It's up to them to decide whether they want to work that hard.

the whole lot was disturbing rooster, reality was a mile apart from my expectations and it would be letting a few off the hook to single out the likes of Lids...sure he was a phantom last night, Gibbs did a number on him, but I raise questions over the likes of Browny, an upgraded 1st yr rookie towelled him, I hadnt seen than since happened to daffy v dogs one time Thewole bloody lot are in the frame...i prob shouldnt say too much more until i settle from this fit of rage:eek:

God help that bloody ball when I step up to the first at Beacy Hill sun morning:D

Lids is nowhere close to where we expected him to be by now. All the talent in the world, just not a hard enough worker. Or we havent made him work hard enough

some of his kick ins were woeful. but you cant help it when every single play is stationary they have to move around and run into space. anyway he is a great player with alot of talent. expect him to have a big jump in preformances from round 1 to round 2.

Seemed like every Richmond player was overawed by the occasion last night. Foleys handball to Waite set the tone and it didnt get better from there. Wonder if he (lids) would benefit from getting thrown into a leadership role?

Have had concerns with Lids "big stage" performances for a while now. I can't recall an important game in which he dominated and really influenced the game.

I said this here after the Brisbane game a few weeks back - but i STRONGLY believe Lids have the dreaded OP.

His speed is well down, he's missing penetration in his kicks, he seems to be struggling with his stamina - but doesn't appear to be "huffing and puffing". He just looks like he can't run anymore - or that he doesn't care.

During the Brisbane game i saw him rubbing his groin after trying to chase players down. His speed was well below his best.

Hate to say it, but i think he has trained himself too hard and got himself OP:(

Had a really poor game round 1 last year aswell. Apparently his dad had a word to him and told him to pull his head in and he did. Maybe he's just a slow starter like Bowden

I love Lids and he was my favourite player until we picked up Cotchin. The distinct difference between the two players are: Cotch is a leader at such a young age and a handful of games while Lids does not work hard enough when the chips are down and not a leader.

I dont like Robert Walls at all but last night he was on the mark when he made the following comment when he said there is nobody in the Richmond side that would inspire his teamates when the chips are down.
I was hoping lids would be able to do that but unfortunately he may not have the mental and physical toughness to inspire his mates and that is disappointing when you invest so much in a player of his ilk.
Cotchin has leadership written all over him.

Lids needs to be told some hard truths. Gary March, Wallet and a few others said Lids had a break out year last year. If we classify last years performance as a break out year well it simply means we dont set high standards/

joke thread lids is elite hurt a shoulder in the 2nd ended up with 22 touches or so and had an equally bad game this time last year, god we are sounding pathetic on these boards. Writing off lids now Laughable

funny the coaches used the words "dominant preseaon" to describe it lets give him a few weeks before u write him off

i am not a psychologist so its hard to know exactly WTF is going on

But from the outside ... looking in ...

It`s the oldest Richmond curse , been around for a generation now .

We just don`t develop players ...

We get talent and mix it in a witches potion of ...

.... a pinch of lament (should have stuck with cricket)
.... half a pound of apathy
.... 200 grams of unprofessionalism
.... 3 tablespoons of poor infrastructure
.... 1/2 a kilo of poor leadership
.... 1/2 a kilo of the weight of histroy
.... 2 tablespoons of the suppoters expectations
..... and a pinch of "eye of newt"

tip it all into a big mixing bowl .... combine with the Bamix for ten minutes

place in big baking dish ... pre-heat oven for 10 minute at 180 degrees .

Place in oven for an hour and a half and ......VWALLAH

our own pie of destiny and miscontent that ruined the careers of a list as long as your arm of young fresh faced tiro`s that have haplessly wandered into our care
