I've always wondered about this. I think the people most affected by dementia are probably not the people who have it, but the people who have to watch the person who has it.

I know how you feel, there's nothing worse than watching a loved one failing to cope with the rigours of life, failing to eat properly, forgetting who you are and just sitting there with their decimated memory just repeating things over and over.

I coulda been a contender,I coulda been a contender,I coulda been a contender,I coulda been a contender,:D

I think it would only be available to the wealthy few in the EU, Aus, US and a smattering of folks in the 3rd world and developing nations.

Whatever the capacity to extend human life it would be available to a fewer %.

imagine lunatics like Bush, Gaddaffi, Mugabi, even Bin Ladin and Saddam, Rumsfeld getting access to this technology and trying to impose their will on the direction of the world for 500 years!

All i Can say is thank goodness we can one day hope that these ****nuckles will die.

the world will be be a better place without the rummies, bin ladens etc.

Unfortunately new psychopaths rise to their place.

I think death brings renewal.

I fear death, but I hope it is a better place for my kids.

If life is extended, then so should the capacity to enjoy it, taste buds, hearing, and dare i Say it, but sex.

Life without intercourse would be like eating a steak cooked by an Englishman, (why or why do they boil meat till its a grey???)

Well, I just think that it's definitely possible that they could come up with a way to make our lives longer......500 years is a bit much I think, but if we're talking a realistic goal......our average life expectancy at the moment is about 70, and as it's already been said in this thread, that's grown a lot over time with cures being found for illnesses and stuff like that. But back in the days of people dying at 19 or 30 or whatever, it wasn't due to ageing, it was mostly illness. And that's my point at the moment, to do this they would have to not only find ways of curing diseases and all that, but also slow the ageing process. Since the oldest human is about 113 (not sure if that's right but it's somewhere up there) then surely it would be more sensible to think in smaller steps, such as extending that to maybe 130 or so......and I still don't know if I would want to live that long!!!
