Who uses Linkedin? Looks like a great tool to use but seems a bit overwhelming with privacy settings and what not, I don't want to be completely exposed (for lack of a better word) by one google search.

Who uses it? What sort of tips do you have? And what would you recommend re privacy settings?

Definitely worth making a profile, provides an in-depth account of your professional skills, education, past experience, testimonials etc. Makes the sorting process for prospective employers a lot quicker.

I have one but only because we had to make one for university a few years ago since then all I've done is accept requests from people I know who added me on there. Be careful about looking people up on there because people can see when you've been looking at their profile

I have been approached for many jobs on LinkedIn, most of them garbage but am currently interviewing for a job I really want which I only found out about through there.

Gotta be in it to win it but also need to be incredibly clear in what you want or if you are willing to move because recruiters are like vultures once you have a few years industry experience

Yeah this, what's up with that? People are posting memes these days, it's ****ing stupid.

I follow a few companies on there, sometimes in the comments of a post you'll see people offering their services for a job, unbelievable stuff.

Get the odd job description every now and then and recruiters do lurk on my page too.

Agree wholeheartedly. My first two years in the industry I am in I got nothing from it, now that I am 5 years in I am getting messages near on weekly.

I love it. Now instead submitting a resume in privacy you are expected to broadcast your resume to every single person on the planet. What's not to love?

Now when applying for jobs online you can 'apply using LinkedIn', then submit your CV, cover letter etc. and then fill in all the information contained within your CV and cover letter and also within your LinkedIn profile.

Have had a fair bit of business through LinkedIn. At one stage I was getting around 5-6 adds a week.
A colleague of mine started adding random good looking women on it from industries outside our own, Banking. Gave me the shits because I then started getting the adds as well because of the "people also viewed" feature. I'm very strict on who I invite and accept adds from due to the eventual spam that they will send you and rubbish from outside my industry. To me, it isn't Facebook and should,be used only as a business networking tool and not for rubbish memes etc.

There's no need to put your entire resume on Linked In.
I just have a brief summary--the company, my title and dates of work. I still get plenty of In Mail.

I have a very cutdown version of my standard CV, a full tailored one then gets sent for jobs I'm interested in.
I have had a few approaches from agencies, etc, through it but not a job. And I'm not really looking now, but will keep it up to date. Partly just in case.
