As this season progresse's and we are already half gone, I wondering of what the BigFooty boarders think about the balance of our list. Ling and his group are moving nicely into 75+ zone and all after his year are also progressing, but at what point do we start making hard decisions to ensure we don’t have too many of the same age group or perhaps too many project players etc.
Until now the last 4 or 5 years the cleanout has been basically painless but at the end this year players that have been picked by the current coach and his group will be in the crosshairs, they will be player with plenty of years left in them so it might be painful. It might useful to use this cull to trade get an extra pick in the first round ,or maybe a player wanting to come back to Vic like Haynes. If so then the players to get traded will probably be guys in the side now, maybe going in /out, maybe even guys who have shown something as they will have more value to potential swap partners Anybody want to point the finger?

I think the most obvious one is David Spriggs. Although I still regard him highly as a good player I think we have enough midfielders and also I reckon we'd get a good trade out of him.

Spriggs is an obvious trade, but I wouldn't be suprised to see someone like Enright traded.Maybe to one of the SA clubs.

I think you might be on the money JUB/JUB though Spriggs is likely to be traded at the end of the year or delited, if he were to be traded his currency isnt that much and Geelong wouldnt recieve all that much in return I suggest a 2nd round draft pick if we were lucky or a lower to middle range player.

PLayers whom originate from interstate such as Enright and Corey will always be up for trade discussion, homesickness etc.. whether or not we trade them is a different issue (I personally love Smithy and reckon he is a gun). A classic example of this Mark Coughlan and Josh Carr whom people are suspecting at least one of them to go home to WA, Nick Stevens last year, Headland in 2002.

I believe Geelong has ample amount of midfielders and flanker types and we all know if you want to get something good like a key forward you need to trade a good player or a high draft pick in return. Anyway its early in the year and if out position remains constant it will be interesting to see Geelongs stance come trade week. I would support the club if they feel the need to trade aggresively to get the elusive key forward.

I really hope Enright does not leave.
He's been great over the past couple of years.

I guess it depends on what is on offer. Our defence is sound, a key defender for squad depth would be handy, and we have plenty of midfielders so unless a star midfielder or a quality key forward comes on the market I can't see us trading away players for picks/run of the mill players.

Foster will go, Spriggs and McCarthy will be lucky to stay and possibly Slade :(

Obviously, I don't see much VFL but Chambers and Lonergan would have big question marks over them. Thurley would be contracted for another year but I'm not sure on Koula.

If we were looking to trade I think Enright, Corey, Bartel, Milburn and Gardiner are players we could give up, for the right deal, and it wouldn't have a diabolical effect. Plus it looks as though we will end up with a very tradeable first pick in the draft but again it all depends what is on offer.

Personally i think we have too many talls on the list, Smith should be cut from rookie list, Foster needs to go and unless McCarthy can learn to kick he may need to go as well. We probably need another key defender (above mentioned are hacks i.e foster or key forwards). and another long kicking midfielder ala moloney wouldnt go astray.

Obviouslly a key forward would be desireable but unless we're going to get a quality one, I wouldnt worry.

Always be nice to pinch and experienced player away from a club with salar cap issues as over the next 3 years id expect graham, sanderson and riccardi all to leave.

I agree that we have an abundance of talls but its all a part of our search for the Holly Grail , the allmighty Gun forward.Although we probably have very few duds and given enough time all might be able to prove reasonable AFL players but I doubt we have a Tenace or an Ablett in a tall version.Somebody who is shear class. What has been the best pick used on a tall the last few years? Im not sure but it would strugle to be better than Charlie Gardnier in the mid 20's.If there some quality young talls this year we should do what ever it takse to get to them. That or get a high pick tall from the last couple of drafts.eg Laycock

Probably Lonergan at 23, and Mackie at 7 (if you consider him a KPP) also dont forget Spinks getting swapped for pick 13 and Mooney for pick 8

Milburn is a keeper. I doubt Thompson will dump him because of his experience. With Ricco & Benny most likely out the door in 1-2 years we will need his experience. Plus he has had a good year thus far. Like it how we are using him as a 3rd man up to belt the ball forward at clearances.
Enright is vunerable just because of his kicking. I like the way he plays in the backline but his kicking lets him down. Ive heard the coaching staff say they are now focusing alot more on kicking skills than say 'athletic ability' which have been the focus at previous drafts. See players like Trent Croad, an athelete come footballer, expect us to go the other way around. So bascially i dont think we'll shove him out the door, but if the right trade comes up & somebody wants him I doubt we'd say no
