LIST MANAGEMENT GAME – 2013

Evening all and welcome to the first Essendon board List Management game.
The concept for those that are not familiar with it was first raised by Danger in Texas and has been slightly modified for this, our inaugural game. Basically, our ten teams will bid on a list of 25 players a day from now until the end of February with the goal of assembling a list of players that when fielded represent the best team as judged by our panel of semi-sort of-kind of not-experts, with the assistance of you good folk.

RULES:

- Each weekday prior to midday, a list of 25 players will be posted on this thread. Our ten competing members must then copy and paste this list into a PM to me with their bids for that days players prior to 8AM the following day. I will not chase you for your bid, if you miss the deadline you simply do not get a bid on that days players. PLEASE DO NOT PUBLICLY PLACE YOUR BID.

- You are not required to bid on every player, simply those that you would like on your team. Bids start at a minimum of $30,000, and must be in whole dollars (no cents please). The name of the winning bidder and the amount bid will be placed next to the players name. In the event of a tied bid, the players involved will be requested to re-bid in secret by the game administrator (yours truly) until a clear winner is had. Re-bids must be higher than the initial bid.

- You must assemble a list of between 25-40 players by the end of the game and before judging begins. A trade period follows the initial auction but be warned YOU CANNOT DUMP PLAYERS ONCE YOU HAVE WON THEM. You may trade them to another player, but you cannot simply drop them off your list. Once a player is bid on he must be on someones list at the end of the trade period. The value of a traded player is equal to what his winning bid value was.

-Your salary cap is $8 million.

- Trading will commence immediately following the final day of bidding. Trading involves only those players that you have on your list. Trading is completely by mutual consent and PM’d to me by all concerned parties. Confirmed trades will then be posted by me on this thread. The only currency in trading is players. You cannot trade $s or anything else.

- A free agency period will follow the trading period where players previously unclaimed players can be added to your list on a first in best dressed basis by PM to me. These players are added at a cost of $30,000.

BE WARNED!! IF AT THE END OF THE FREE AGENCY PERIOD YOU EXCEED YOUR SALARY CAP OR ARE OUTSIDE YOUR MIN/MAX PLAYERS LIMITS YOU WILL BE INSTANTLY DISQUALIFIED. THAT WOULD SUCK AFTER PUTTING IN THE WORK.

JUDGING:

- Our ten teams will be divided into two groups of five and matched up against each other over the course of a week in a single day poll. The winners will be ranked on a ladder, and at the end of the week the top two from each group will be proceed to semi finals and finally a GF. The winner of the GF will be declared the Popular Vote Winner.

- Three special judges will be asked to give there 3, 2, 1 votes on who they believe the best assembled teams are. The winner of that vote will be declared the Experts Winner.

- In the event that the same team wins both competitions; I will personally send them a bottle of Scotch (postage in Australia only).

- In the highly unlikely event that a tie in either event occurs, the deciding vote will be mine.

JUDGING CRITERIA:

Criteria 1: Experience - is your team experienced enough to be ready to win premierships?

Criteria 2: Depth - if 5 of your star players have injuries, do you have good back-ups?

Criteria 3: Quality - Brownlow medallists, Coleman medallists etc.

Criteria 4: Chemistry - Is your team full of Akers and Fevs?
Criteria 5: Mix – Is it a healthy list with coverage all over the ground?

TIMELINE:
Bidding: Every weekday from 16th January through to 13th March.

Trading: 13th March through 14th March (11:59pm)
Free Agency: 15th & 16th March (11:59pm)

Matches: 18th to 26th March
(AFL season starts 22nd March)

NEXT STEPS:

I would now like the ten competing teams to place a post in the thread so that their teams can be edited and updated as the game progresses.
PLEASE: Nobody else post until the ten teams have their posts in.

That’s it people; good luck!

Oh, one more thing:

We’ve specifically selected ten posters who are on here frequently. If they miss a day it’s not the end of the world, but for the benefit of all please do not bail on the game.

IF I CAN PUT IN THE EFFORT TO RUN IT, YOU CAN PUT IN THE EFFORT TO PARTICIPATE.

Midfield:
A classy and deep midfield group led by Dayne Beams, Daniel Rich and Brad Sewell, with class acts Jack Trengove, Scott Selwood, Dustin Martin, Simon Black and Andrew Gaff, starts off what is an incredibly effective midfield, even before the addition of one of the games premier taggers, Ryan Crowley.

Ruck:
The powerhouse Ivan Maric leads the ruck charge, with tall forward Quinten Lynch and even Adam Goodes available to provide a chop out when necessary.

Forward Line:
Dual Coleman medallist Jack Riewoldt spearheads a dynamic and incredibly potent forward line, while they provide invaluable service as back up ruckman, Adam Goodes and Quinten Lynch are best serviced as tall targets, able to compete in the air with any backmen.
Crumbing at their feet while offering superb forward pressure and providing masterful aerial service themselves are the 2 Andrews, Walker and Krakouer.
With the final forward line spot taken by a classy midfielder resting forward, able to present an extra scoring option in addition to increased pressure in the forward line.

Back Line:
Lead by ever dependable big men Nathan Brown and Jackson Trengove, the up and comer Dylan Grimes provides the third tall option without sacrificing mobility, while the young but dependable Brandon Ellis provides tenacious assistance at ground level.
Classy hard nut Michael Hibberd and smooth mover Clint Young offer impeccable rebound ability from defence, and can be relied upon to set up a great deal of fruitful forward transitions.

11.wolt_16adpk2-16adpk9.jpg

Sub:
Daniel Hannebery is one of the hardest workers getting around, able to come on and immediately provide a much needed spark in any position on the ground.
112731-dan-hannebery.jpg
Leadership:
Brownlow medallists Adam Goodes and Simon Black provide exemplary leadership as co captains, while the greater leadership group includes hard workers like Dayne Beams, Jack Trengove and Brad Sewell, and offers important back up for the 2 champions.

Depth:
With forward depth in dependable players like James Podsiadly, Ashley McGrath, Alwyn Davey and Kieran Harper, backline depth in Matthew Warnock, Stephen Gilham, Bachar Houli and Sam Shaw, while boasting incredible ruck and midfield depth with the likes of Billy Longer, Colin Sylvia, Sam Gibson, Matt Rosa, Richard Douglas and a host of others, this is a side well placed to deal with any unfortunate sidelining of key players.

This is without doubt an incredibly well balanced side, with a slew of champions and prolific leaders, backed up by a horde of dependable hard workers and up and coming stars, it is quite simply a football side to be feared by all.

The main reason I think I should win is my midfield, which oozes pace and class with young stars like Dangerfield, Bennell, Shuey and Gibbs leading the charge. Seriously, Who do you tag?
However that outside class is backed up by the inside hardness of Moloney, De Boer, McLean, Shiels, McVeigh and Hodge (the latter two being a premiership captain and N.S medalist respectively) who provide the bash and crash to feed the ball out to the outside runners.
But all that's meaningless if the mid's don't get first use of the ball, which is where my deep ruck department comes into play. Bellchambers i believe is capable of becoming one of the best ruckmen in the competition very shortly, and he's ably backed up by Clarke, West, Pyke and Hannath, who are all capable as tap ruckmen who can also slide forward and kick a goal as well.

The Defense i believe is extremely solid, even if it lacks a big name or two. Rivers and McKenzie form a solid partnership capable of containing the leagues best forwards, while Dempster and Joseph can do job's on the leagues Medium and Small forwards, while Dempster can also provide run off the half back flank if left on his own. Couple this with the experienced Hodge and Reilly manning the flanks (As well as the dashing Ash Smith on the pine) and I believe you have a very solid, well rounded defence.

If my team does have a weakness, it is probably the forwards, although in saying that, it is lead by the best key forward in the game IMO in Matthew Pavlich, who is the star, spearhead and captain of my side. At the feet of the Pav there's the crumbing duo of Adam Schneider and Alex Fasolo, the former a class, premiership forward, and the latter an excellent (if not arrogant) young forward who relishes the big games.
Providing the chop out for Pavlich (and Bellchambers) is his purple buddy Zac Clarke, who although goofy, can take a grab, and crash a pack, which is really all I need from him considering the players on the deck.
And before you say there's not enough goals in that forward line, Danger, Shuey and Bennell kicked 70 between them last year, so there is that.

Other Criteria

Experience - A young side admittedly, but 12 players with more than 100 games, and experience in all areas of the ground makes me believe there is enough experience there.
Depth - I'll admit to not having the deepest squad, but I do think my ruck depth is fantastic, and I have very promising kids in all areas of the field ready to fill any voids that may arise.
Quality - Not laden with awards, but I don't think squads should be marginalized due to lack of individual awards, it is a team game after all.
Chemistry - pretty healthy mix, you could say Moloney is a bit of a bonehead, but his move north seems to have revitalized him.
Mix - The midfield runs the show, but there are matchwinners on every line in my opinion.

Good work Jade.

Why should I win? Well I counter that with, why shouldn't I?

Let's start in defence with the AA CHB in Ted Richards. Alongside him I have the Merrett-Murray Medalist of 2012 in Joel Patfull, who will take the monster key forwards (well, the ones not already in my team). Harry Taylor, another All Australian will be the third defender in line, turning defence into attack with great intercept marking (only Jack Watts can challenge him in that regard). Suckling and Scotland will provide the run from defence and execute perfect +50m kicks regularly. Then there is some bloke called Fletcher who goes alright too. Depth is pretty good too, with Andrew Mackie on the bench, Michael Johnson able to fill in as well when needed, along with Thornton, Brown, McGuanne, Pears and Blake. Duigan as a sub will naturally slot in, allowing one of Scotland or Suckling some midfield freedom.

Midfield. That's where I'm a Viking. I have some great established midfield stars in Ablett, Cross and Thompson who boss the midfield, along with some young stars in Wellingham, Redden, Swallow, Magner, Howlett and Caddy. I also have some handy players in Harvey, Thomas, Sidebottom and Davey who can help in the rotations. My Ruck division is second to none (sorry eth-dog) with Naitanui, Cox and Jamar.

Forwards. My triple threat forwards line begins is centered around JJ Kennedy, Tex Walker and Dean Cox (who will rotate with Nic Nat) If they don't mark it (unlikely), then Harvey, Thomas, Sidebottom will all be there to clean up the mess, and all have a great nose for goal. With backups like Davey, Monfries, Stewart, Papparone and Kosi.

This squad includes 24 All Australian Awards among other prestigious awards, including Brownlow Medals and club B&F's. This squad has a great mix of experience (both in finals and games played) and youth. It includes arguably the best player in the world, surrounded by a strong midfield core and great defence and attack.

So I ask again. Why shouldn't I win?

Backline: A strong defensive 6, I feel that this group of players provide both the ability to shut-down even the best forward line, while offering an offence flair to spark a quick and decisive counter-attack.

Daniel Merrett and Nathan Bock are my two KPD's, both senior players with years of experience and the ability to dominate their opponents in all facets. Don't be fooled into thinking Bock is sub-par, he remains one of, if not, the best dedicated CHB in the league. These two players also have the capability to play in the forward line if the situation requires it, and have the ability to do it well.

Daniel Talia is my third man up, the rising star winner showed this year that he is more than able to take a KBD if required. Also provides the option to play on a quicker, leading forward should he be required.

Scott Thompson would be the man I would entrust to take on the opposition smaller forwards. A fantastic negator, he provides an even harder substance to this titanium-like defence.

Goddard and Murphy speak for themselves. Over the past decade, they have shown game after game how destructive they can be coming off the half back line. Quality ball use in ensured by these two, who also provide further leadership to a squad that is already rich in it. They all are able to play in different position, with Goddard able to slid into the midfield rotation and Murphy able to slot in to the HFF line if a player Fyfe is having a run on the ball.

Midfield: Quality everywhere. A starting centre square setup of Mumford, Hayes, Murphy and Watson will not be beaten in the clearances. Chuck in Brownlow Medalist Adam Cooney and live-wire David Zaharakis waiting on the wings to carry on the good work of the aforementioned clearance specialist and you have the makings of a phenomenal midfield.

But that's not all.

Nat Fyfe, Brendon Goddard, Shaun Burgoyne and Leigh Montagna are just waiting to get in on the action. When names such the above can't get a starting spot, you know that there is some serious talent in the middle. This rotation would be running all game, with the perfect mixture on matrix-like clearance work and laser-like delivery on the outside. Good luck beating this midfield.

Forward: The midfield maybe be orgasmic, but they are only as good as their forwards (ask Collingwood), and wow, doesn't this forward line deliver.

Featuring the best true CHF in the league in Nick Riewoldt, one the best full-forwards in the league Tom Hawkins, perhaps the best small forward in the league Eddie bets, arguably the best young KPP prospect in the league in Jeremy Cameron and one of the best specimens and third-talls in the league in Crameri, you have a highly potent forward line.

Oh, did I mention James Hird reincarnate, Nat Fyfe?

You may be able to stop one, maybe two if you're lucky. But the whole forward line?

I hate to tell you, there's only defence capable of giving it a red hot go. Unfortunately for everyone else, that's my defence.

Bench/Sub: Burgoyne, Priddis and Montagna, all players who would be a starting player in any other team. The fact that they start on the bench shows just how talented and deep this team runs.

For the sub, Leigh Matthews mk II should go alright...

Depth: Malceski, Mzungu, Watts, O'Brien, Wingard, Brown, Stokes... you get the idea. Quality replacements on every line.

How the best intercept marker in the league can't make the team, I'll never know. Such is the quality though he is able to suck down on the straw in his vodka Cruiser and sit back and wait for him yearly 3 Brownlow vote game against Essendon.

Verdict: My team is awesome. If you were considering voting for anyone else, then I have one simple reason not to...

"Don't kid yourself, voters. If these posters ever got the chance, they'd'd eat you and everyone you care about"

The reason I should win this game is quite simple. Look at that 22. It's one of the strongest going around.

My defence has 3 premiership players in Butler, Reid and Grundy, a defender in Jamison that you know is capable of defeating both talls and smalls as the 3rd key defender- you rarely see that quality. You've got a former All Australian CHB, and two young, quick players on the flanks with good skills and good football brains in Atley and Brodie Smith

My midfield is fantastic. 2 Brownlow medals, 1 Norm Smith Medal, 2 very exciting young, quick players who break lines for fun, 3 club captains and 4 bench players who are capable of some tough football. Not to mention a ruckman pair who are great in both the hitout department as well as resting forward or running around the ground

The forward line is probably the weakest 3rd of the ground. Hurley, Ryder/Jacobs and Clark are smart key forwards, Thomas knowing how to crumb and two of Varcoe/Jetta/Bartel/Swan/Ward resting forward you've got the makings of a good, solid forward line.

My depth is a fair question, and I believe my ruck depth is unrivaled with Hamish McIntosh being 3rd in line, and Andrew Phillips as a developing ruckman. My midfield depth is young and exciting with Horlin-Smith, Blease, Crozier and Russell, my key position depth is also exciting with youngter Sean Gregory (I claimed him as my boy from this years draft so I had to take him) and Charlie Dixon. My forward depth is solid with Macaffer and Petterd, but my defensive depth is by far my best, with young players like Colquhoun and Vlastuin as well as solid defenders like Hardingham and Baguley

Why i should win? Gee well where to start. I destroyed this game and it doesnt matter who votes for me, i already know ive won and had won it so early that it was funny (no arrogance, just fact).

Grandfinal, Experience, Mix, Maturity, level headed, skillful, hard nut backline it has an amazing mix and would be close to my first picked 6 backline players in the comp. In fact i have the most recent HBF All australians in Waters and Birchall in those exact positions along side Glass also recent AA. Glass is the captain of his side he leads the backline to war every week, whilst him and Lonergan take the bigger key forwards, Gibson is the rebounding 3rd tall defender, come over the top defender with his usual 30 spoils a game. Heath Shaw takes the small forwards, he strong one on one, can kick most likely taking kick ins for this side along with Birchall at times. (Birchall can also play 4th tall if required) so its ready for all opposition. Tom Lonergan also made the 2012 most recent year All australian squad. Gibson has also been in the AA squad of recent (2011 from memory). So not one backman has not been in the AA 40 man squad along with 4 that have been in the AA team for respective positions as above and 3 currently. Good luck scoring against this side on grandfinal day.

Silk, Class, leadership, skill, clearances, ball magnet is written all over this midfield setup. I dont need to mention Pendles and Deledio current AA midfielders name alongside Swan, Kennedy on the bench. Pendles multiple time AA. Who will you tag in this setup IMO my best midfielder in the midfield is Griffen surprising to some but put him in an elite side he would run rampant. Chris Judd is a top leader like Glass my co captains and multipl B&Fs (6) and AAs (5) along with brownlows coming out his ears. Mundy is a gun clearance player he is also a better wingman if he had a side like this thats where he would play has silk, line breaking skills and clean kicking very damaging sort. To add to this i have picked the tallest, strongest big man in the comp all he has to do along with being All asutralian is get his hands on the footy first and that always happens.

My forward line is dangerous. Premiership material and all australian material once again. Chappy, SJ, Brown (not in the best 22) are all AAs and won that many premiership medallions along with Cloke an AA and premiership medalist and may i say it still the 2nd best CHF in the comp (Hawkins, Walker) still need to prove themselves, good luck to which defende outside of Glass, Lonergan and Gibson can play on him. Taylor and Reid not strong enough. Petrie is a wonderful pick we all know can play ruck AA in fact in 2011 for this role and also a key forward. Would love him to get the second key defender and see what he does with him in this side - coleman medal to be had. Im yet to mention Cotchin but hes that rotating HFF/onballer could easily start midfield but this guy is extremely capable of playing as a forward aswell it would be silly not to play him there along with the midfield role.

Now Kerr, Dalsanto, Lewis are my interchange players to chop out the midfielders and rotate heavy. Lecras a very dangerous sub along with guys like Jon Brown, Heppell, Hartlett, Duffield, J.Bolton, D.Morris (AA), Porplyzia who most have been all will be AA by the time their careers finish. Tough gig to get a game in this side. Poor guys miss out, i have depth as you can see for each position for each role.

Depth
Henderson - key back
Morris - Key back/3rd tall defender/small defender

J.Brown - key forward
Hale - key forward/ruck (petrie role)
Porplyzia - small forward
Gray - HFF/small forward pocket

Heppell - Hbf/middle
Duffield - HBF/back pocket

Hartlett - anywhere
J.Bolton - defensive half forward/onballer (lewis)
H.Hocking - tagger (if required)

Along with this team i managed to keep 240k~ left over waiting for Buddy to come out in the FA period the following year. I heard he wants to win premierships every year for the next 10 years. Plus a few colemans.

And our first day bids are off. I understand it's very short notice, but if you could all get bids on the 16th Jan players by tomorrow 8am it would be appreciated.

A couple of pointers:

- Don't be shy in bidding!! You'll likely be out bid anyway. Besides, I promise you that you won't be able to assemble a team of superstars. Those fringe players and solid contributors are the key to victory. A $45k bid on a nice little player is a good chance to succeed......

- Have a plan. Know exactly how much you want to spend on your stars, and then be aggressive with those positions / players.

- Get at least 35 players. If I was a judge (and read the fine print, I might be ;)), I would not pick a team with only 25 players and several superstars over a well balanced side with 35 to pick from.

- Have fun and see it through. It's about six weeks of weekdays and one message to me; don't let everyone else down.

Great work Jade :thumbsu:.

My pleasure, it's actually quite fun having bids roll in, seeing what peoples game plans are - whether they were just pipped on some players or way overbid on others..... :thumbsu:

Please reveal some now! The wait is killing me.

Gee, this is much well run than on the OFG board :p

Thanks mate. Didn't respond earlier for fear of starting a discussion when I really wanted to get the posts of the ten teams in.

Do we find out how much the winner bid actually bid? or is that hidden til at least the end

EDIT: BTW Dwight Schrute a sucker

Also if we cant find anyone id be happy for you to be a judge but preferrably not only from another team if we could that is an honest mutual poster. I know you will form friendships with people through posting i hope you get as much excitement out of it as i do from finding at if i got any players.

Every player is put up for auction right?

The winning bid, and the winner are revealed after all ten teams have bid or 8am the next day whichever comes first (admin note: you won't GET the results at 8am, you'll get them sometime between 8am and 12pm when the next days list is revealed).

In short, if I get all ten bids before I go to bed you'll get the winner. Otherwise you'll get the winner when I get to work.

Interesting, seems the premium midfielders are going for around the $800k mark. Good pickups by Childish Gambino and eth-dog

I think Dwight Schrute made out like an absolute bandit getting Curnow so cheap, and got a nice little midfielder in Kav for a couple of coins. Childish Gambino got LRT cheap I think.

Today's going up now. Sorry for the delay, I got pulled into a meeting that would make baby jesus cry.
