Convicted paedophile Dennis Ferguson can roam NSW unchecked for 14 days after being freed from jail on Wednesday for the second time in two years.
Ferguson has two weeks to either return to the address he was registered at before his latest 15-month prison term or inform authorities of his new residence, a spokesman for the Attorney-General's department said.
Released in January 2003 after serving a 14-year term in a Queensland prison for raping three children, Ferguson moved to Sydney.
He breached a provision of the Child Protection Act that states child sex offenders must inform the Child Protection Register if they change jobs, and if that job gives them access to children.
Ferguson worked selling cleaning products to schools and failed to inform the register.
He left John Morony Correctional Facility on Wednesday after serving 15 months for the breach.
Ferguson is not subject to any parole that might have included reporting his whereabouts.
"If he moves somewhere else he's got 14 days to update and if he doesn't update then it's a breach and he will go back to jail," a spokesman for the Attorney-General's department said.
Once his details are updated, living in NSW is going to be difficult for the 56-year-old who r*ped three children aged six, seven and eight, in Brisbane in 1988.
"NSW is the only state in Australia where police now have the power to inform members of the public where there is a paedophile living amongst them," Police Minister John Watkins said.
"Senior members of the police can supply that information if they believe it is for the protection of children.
"Police can provide that information to any member of the public that they believe needs or should know where a paedophile is living in the community.
"That could be the principal of a school, the president of a sporting club, it could be someone involved in a local church, it could be someone who runs a shop or runs a hospital - that decision is up to the police.
"Once the police provide information to a member of the public there are no constraints on what that member of the public does with that information."
As he left jail, clutching two plastic shopping bags of personal belongings, Ferguson lashed out at the waiting media and kicked photographers.
He shied away from the attention, unlike his verbose performance on leaving jail in Queensland, where he failed to complete a rehabilitation program or even admit his crimes.
Corrective Services officers directed him to a departmental vehicle they had ready to take him to Windsor train station.
But after further clashes with the media, officers put him in a police car and drove him away.

How long before an angry mob tracks this degenerate down and pelts him with rocks and bricks?

Then whatever he takes, he should bottle it and put it on the market.
