Can anyone confirm that there is a player by the name of Longmire running around for the Murray Bushrangers.

Saw his name in the goalkickers yetserday but am still unsure.

If it is a younger brother, there is a big age difference (12-13 years)

Maybe a nephew?

Listening to the radio on the weekend they said that Johnny Longmire was close to a better chance of getting the senior job instead of Roos is Eade gets the flick.

That I would not like to see :(

I saw a guy called Murray Longmire playing in the 2000 O&M Grannie. I think there may be a few rels up near the boarder.

A bit of info on the Longmires & the O&M roos (Corowa Rutherglen)......

Murray Longmire is John's younger brother (their father is Fred). Played for the Murray Bushrangers (U18) but wasn't drafted. A few inches shorter than John, he has been a great full back for Corowa Rutherglen Roos in O&M & played for the O&M rep side for a number of years.

Lachlan Longmire is John's cousin (father is Peter), he has playerd seniors for C-R & has been playing well for the Bushrangers, generally at CHB or CHF. Mick Gayfer's youngest brother, Will, is another to watch out for, playing in key positions for Bushrangers.

A bit more related trivia, Peter & Fred's brother Robert played a few games for Collingwood in the 1960's. They're a pretty fair footballing family.

Murray played well in the GF in 2000, as did David Teague who was poleaxed twice (once very early in the game) but showed all the poise & courage that people are starting to notice now. Also, on the losing side that day (North Albury) was Mark Hilton. Damian Houlihan (who played a few games at Collingwood & spent a year with us at North but didn't play in seniors) was BOG with 10 goals & his youngest brother Josh (drafted by St Kilda last year) was BOG in the thirds. The other brothers (Adam - Richmond & Ryan - Carlton) similarly came through the club & the Bushrangers to be drafted.

Now for the exciting news for all those looking for "Roo babies" in earlier posts. John & Murray's sister, Shelley, is married to Jeff Chandler who played about 50 games for North in late 80's - early 90's. Jeff played for the C-R Roos after leaving North but suffered a serious injury that ended his career.

thanks for that post ianl. i love reading that kind of stuff.

by the way, by jeff chandler do you mean the guy we picked from fitzroy? if so didn't he play for us around '97-98-99.... or was that brett chandler?

anyway i really liked that guy from fitzroy. he was pretty gutsy. i remember one game against west coast..... he put his head between someones foot (phil matera) and the ball. he copped a kick to the head, saved the goal and got a free kick out of it. his career also ended abit soon due to injury (broke his leg twice i think). probably wasn't big enough to be playing footy at afl level.

I have a feeling Jeff Chandler was related to one of our sevnties superstars... I can't remember who (maybe Kieth Greig?)... but it is not the chandler from Fitzroy...

The Chandler from Fitzroy was Brett

Jeff played late 80's when North was struggling

He was a back pocket player who was good but did not really stand out.

To be honest, everytime he got the ball, he seemed to go for the boundary, hence we nicknamed him "Hit the boundary Son"

Thought it was hilarious until one day when we realised his parents were sitting behind us. Nothing malicious was intended in the comments, but from then on have never bagged a North player again

Glad I wasn't the only bloke who picked up on this. Fair dinkum, Jeff Chandler could pinpoint the boundary from the centre circle and not get pinged.

Surely Swatta will be retiring... and why would Pagan take on a list in worse shape then ours??? they would have to be twoo years behind us in rebuilding... oh wait a sec they have plugger!!!

also the last time i mentioned a possible scenario, i was against it too i want pagan at the roos, but only time will tell of whats been ticking over in thier minds,

rocket is a top coach sydney have fickle supporters in sydney who only follow a winning side im sure it wasnt the melbourne supporters giving him the raw deal on the weekend.

as for ian colless he probably thinks his job is ubder threat as he looks like being one of the last but longest running interstate teams going. so he has thrown the preassure back on the coach,

remember how much money the afl has pumped into sydney with little return
