Great. I'm really looking forward to finishing 5th again. Another year wasted. He's had 7 years and no one's got the balls to sack him.

I agree things are looking better for Bomber but not based on this article...this article is just intelligent speculation piecing together certain facts that everybody already knows.

The Geelong Advertiser has more or less suggested Bomber is staying and Costa sounded pretty annoyed with the Age article on Sunday...so I reckon Bomber is looking safer...but we still dont know yet?

Yeah, I'm a bit worried that Bomber has requested the same support staff (Lovell at least must go) but overall, I'd be fairly happy for Bomber to stay.

Having to wait to develop a new senior coach would almost see our premiership window closed. We have a young list still. There are alot of people writing us off for next year, but I'm actually pretty excited. There is no reason why we can't turn it all around.

All I do hope, if Bomber does coach on next year is that all his knockers get behind him and support the club and its decisions. What we have to remember is that Cook, Costa and Thompson have saved the club from an extremely dangerous financial position. They made decisions that potentially saved our club from disaster, we should all respect the decision that the board come up with. It will be the right one.

The only thing that saddens me is that Bomber asked for his assistants to stay.

He obviously isn't watching/reading the stat pages where all our midfield efficiency ratings have depreciated quickly under Lovell.

Secondly, none of our forwards have been great. None can kick all that well, therefore is there something wrong with the teaching methods. Most likely.

Therefore Lovell and Hinkley just have to go.

if Bomber stays then a at least 50% of the supp staff must be swapped out, and the same should be done if he goes.

But if he stay's with the same supp staff.......what is the figging point of the whole review???

this review is starting to make St Kilda's way of doing things look great!

He could hardly say they should go - that would appear as if he was trying to blame them and if he starts playing the blame game (Loris excepted) then he really would be shown the door.

When they get given the boot, I'm sure he'll say how sad it is to see them go, but somehow I doubt that will match what he really feels

Just like when Dare and McConnell went. He was loyal to them too and he probably liked them personally - but they went.

Cat CEO wants to keep Thompson

GEELONG chief executive Brian Cook is recommending to the Geelong board that Mark Thompson be kept as senior coach next year.
Sources last night confirmed that Cook, who has overseen a lengthy and extensive review of the football department, was arguing that Thompson deserved the chance to complete his contract and coach the Cats in 2007.
However, the support of the highly regarded chief executive, while a significant boost to Thompson, does not guarantee his survival. The decision on the senior coach ultimately still rests with the board, which is yet to make a formal decision on the potentially divisive issue for the club, with differences of opinion at board level.
That Cook favours Thompson's retention contradicts suggestions that David Parkin, a member of the panel reviewing the coach, had told a grand final breakfast in Tasmania that the recommendation would be to remove Thompson.
Geelong denied there was a recommendation to sack Thompson and Parkin said his remarks had been misinterpreted. Thompson has been on holiday in Queensland as the club reviews his position and the rest of the football department, where changes are expected, regardless of the decision on Thompson.
Last week, Cook was granted an extra week to finish his review and while the review is not finished, his thoughts on the senior coach have been made known to the board.
In reviewing Thompson, Cook interviewed senior players and player managers and received mixed feedback on the coach, with some criticism of his communication skills.
But full-back Matthew Scarlett publicly supported Thompson.

Cook would not comment last night, while club president Frank Costa could not be reached for comment.
Costa last week acknowledged to The Age there had been disquiet at board level over the team's inability to match expectations this year. "Our football guys on the board get frustrated, probably more frustrated than the business guys, because their backgrounds have been ones of high achievements in that area," Costa said. "The business guys perhaps are more patient."
Costa, who intends to stand down as president at the end of 2007, has been a strong Thompson supporter during his time as president and was believed likely to back the retention of the coach.
The Geelong board will meet disgruntled members at a special general meeting at Skilled Stadium on October 11 to discuss the coaching position and other issues after receiving a petition signed by 130 members.
Melbourne's VFL affiliate Sandringham meets Geelong in Sunday's VFL grand final, a game that will be attended by Thompson.
Cook defended the coach's absence last Sunday from Geelong's VFL preliminary final against Williamstown. Cook said he had recommended the coach take a break.

Bomber is looking safe.

Still unsure of that Parkin quote form a few days ago though????

Based on???
Good to see everyone at the club embraces the mediocrity.

I am surprised that Cook is that supportive. I have it on good authority that complaints were made about a certain coach's behaviour at a local establishment in the last fortnight. Patrons at the establishment were shocked by the language and drunken behaviour of the said person and his very young female acqaintances and calls were made direct to the CEO...
