Any non-indigenous players you'd like to include in your list to make it look like you're not racist?

I thought that as well. I know Farmer had issues and Lovett appears to as well

Nothing I know about Walters. Yes some indigenous players do have off-field issues, and the AFL has adressed that - there was an article out today by the AFL stating that there needs to be more done for indigenous players adjusting to AFL life. There are loads of non-indigenous AFL players that have issues as well

Why am i seeing this thread title on the fremantle board? Tell me its a joke
No joke. It's a time honoured tradition that every player who becomes available gets discussed as to whether they would add something.

If it was on purely footy terms, he'd be a shoo in. At his best he is very Hill like. His speed on Subiaco would be a big asset.

But to draft him you'd need to handcuff him to someone who would belt him every time he had a stupid thought. I suspect he would be so battered from that he'd never get on the field.

Perhaps, and its an incredibly long shot, the other Nyoongars we have may be able to turn him around. Or Harvey as his ex-coach can get the best from him. But its just such a long shot.

Better that he does an Andrew Krakour and do a year or two in WAFL/VFL to show he can maintain a high level.

There is at least one current player on our list who would leave if this ever happened. I don't think we would even consider him.

I'd take Montagna and Milne in a heartbeat if they were free...

Milne and Ballantyne together would be worth the price of admission alone.

Yeah, but you just want to win footy matches. You don't care about the integrity of the players in your team.

I would care if they had a negative effect on team chemistry (i.e. lazy, unprofessional behaviour, going out until late hours on the weekend etc.). But if our playing group don't view it as an issue, why would you take exception?

Okay, so what's YOUR problem then?

For example, I'm not a fan of MJ. I think he's lazy and if he applied himself he could be a star. But he's playing, and I haven't heard any murmurs from the playing group that they're unhappy with him. But he's a Docker so I'll support him and wish him the best.

Same goes with if we picked up Monty or Milne. Sue me.

Word is Johnson is going to be traded. And who's Sue???

pffft cos we're drowning in talls. No chance of him going. Im still in his corner, just think he needs to be dropped at the end of the year for the couple of finals, and the granny. That'll wake him up :D

Political correctness strikes again.

Complaining about political correctness strikes again. 'Oh oh, it is so painful that people rightly label me a racist/sexist because I use overtly racist/sexist language as I am either stupid or actually racist/sexist.' Idiot.

Let me spell it out for you. In the original quote (below) he/she conflates the behaviour of three players: Farmer, trouble with off and on field violence. Lovett, unprofessional behaviour in training and match preparation (and subsequently accused of rape). Walters: Possibly maybe might perhaps have an 'attitude' problem. Presumably somebodies brothers cousins uncles fishmongers delivery man overheard this in the pub. I.E. It's speculative dribble. All of these behaviours have nothing in common other than the three involved being indigenous. It is therefore definitely racist to dredge them up together by absolutely any reasonable standard. Christ, one has been retired for three years.

Essendon wanted him gone. St kilda were already of the verge of dumping him before the rape thing. Even if you leave the court case out of it, he was still trouble wherever he went. Personally, I had enough with Farmer and it looks like Walters is not applying himself to his footy either. No thanks.
NO! NO! NO!

The truth is Paracleet, I didn't realise until later that night that i had only mentioned 3 indigenous players. I guess you are just more sensitive to it than i am. The reason I chose those 2 other players is probably because I was discussing a troubled indigenous player in Lovett and we have already had our share of them. Farmer, Hedland, Walters, Johnson etc. You can give me a team full of Hayden's and Grover's and O'Louchlin's +++, I just don't see why so much extra time, effort and concessions have to be given to troubled Aboriginal players. It's not as though these guys are from remote communities, they have been playing footy and living alongside white people for their whole lives. Fremantle had no problem getting rid of Dodd and Peake and any other white player who is not complying with team rules. Why would you then import a guy who has shown he will not comply with any team rules. There is a lot of homophobia and sexism on this site, haven't noticed anyone coming to these groups defence.

I would hate to think that Johnson was traded because of one mistake last year. We can't know what else is going on in the club, but if that is the only problem they have with him, getting rid of him based on that only would be very harsh.

johnson has been done for drugs twice, with the first time being ecstacy, and he lied to the club about it. not to mention that he is a heartless bludger on the field, im sure the club could find plenty of reasons to boot him, whether or not they do is another thing. fingers crossed

If it's starting to add up I don't have a problem with him being moved on. But short of serious misdemeanours, I think one mistake should be tolerated. They are not machines. Doesn't mean there shouldn't be consequences though.
