News Lower Delisted

Given the numbers around the ball Lyon likes to play, I think that it would of been great to have kept lower because it suits his style. Guys like Neale et al, won't be much of a factor in the team this year, and if they are its because we are suffering injuries in the middle and are probably already stuffed. Morabito didn't produce that much in his first year, although he seemed to have all the tools, and I would be surprised if he hasn't regressed after two years out of the game. If he can follow Barlow and Mundy's lead from last year, with very patchy early season form which starts to come together towards the end of the year, I for one will be very happy. No doubt Lower is a big loss, depth is crucial.

That is doubtful.
It's doubtful that depth is crucial? :p

Might be blowing my load on this a bit early, but if Neale tracks the on the same path he showed this year, he'll be surpassing anything Lower could offer by the end of 2013 with ease. I rate him highly and I think he's a fair comparison to Nick too. Of course there is the 2nd year blues that might hit, but I'd probably take Neale in our 22 over Lower even now.

Not that I'm disagreeing with the overall gist of your post, but it's guys like Neale which are making Lower's loss far less of an issue and its why many of us aren't too broken up over it I reckon.

Yes I would want to play Neale ahead of Lower, he could be anything. As indeed could Crozier, Sheridan and now Simpson. I really liked Lower but the fact is he would have been well back in the queue as evidenced by his drawing the short straw of being delisted.

Exactly. If you're playing your 35th best player on your list you won't be winning games.

we won plenty last year with Clancee in the team :D
and that's what's going to be really interesting next year. Clancee has come to symbolise the Ross Lyon buy in to me. But will he get a game when Morabito, Pearced, Simpson, Neale start knocking the door down. Where is he on the pecking order?

Medhurst couldn't hit a player in the open 15 meters away at the time he was traded. But yeh its comparable if you are talking about Medhurst when he was in form.

Disagree completely, Medhurst was a quite a good field kick. His confidence was on the rocks by the time we traded him, but even then he was OK.

He was waaaaayyyy better than Lower even when he was traded.

JG has it right there.

Rubbish, i just watched a 2010 game where we beat Sydney in Sydney. Fyfe was essentially non-existent. He turned the ball over and was fairly useless in congestion. He showed glimpses but nothing better than Neale showed. I was amazed watching that game that its the same player, the difference between 2010 and 2011 is astonishing. Can't wait to see what he can produce in 2013. We might see a big step up from Neale, Sutcliffe, Sheridan, Crozier or even Forster (provided he's injury free). I actually believe Duffy will be the surprise packet, he's essentially the same age as the aforementioned and had a better season than most in the WAFL.

Rubbish based on one game? A game in which Fyfe received 2 of his 5 Brownlow votes for 2010? Fyfe played 18 games in 2010 and he showed infinitely more than any of those other players that you (and others) are mentioning as candidates to step up in 2013..

The likes of Neale, Sheridan, Crozier, etc. may well turn out to be good players, but we have no idea yet. Whereas when you saw Fyfe play in 2010, there were definitely signs he was going to be a special player.

I think that was the game he got his rising star nomination. Carved it up in the wet.
Fyfe had the benefit of playing in a worse team then and had to step up more as a freshman to fill the void, so he got more chances to contribute than the current crop of newbies. Having said that, he's pretty bloody special.

I'm sure that ultimately Ross values talent over things like attitude and application.
Having said that Clancee is shorter than 35 th on the list. However if a team is truly progressing there will be casualties .
I can come up with 3 names who will be under the pump next year and we all know the day will come when Pavlich won't be good enough to get a game..... I hope it's soon.

Fremantle have stated that they would pick Lower again, why do people have to lay the boots into a required player?
Lower has seen the writing on the wall, like all of us, and knows his future is limited, and decided to put his name out there.
I still rate him as a footballer, and good luck to him, will be interesting to see who will protect the kids.

They have to catch them first. We are drafting absolute speedsters.
