Nope the AFL historian is still pretty firm on the fact that it was only 49 and he is going to go through the records. It would be interesting to see who he picked if he was available to us as he is a Geelong supporter.Dont worry we already have 2 father/sons this year.Originally posted by Chops
Article on today's Scum Herald.
Robbie McGhie believes he played 57 not 49 with Bulldogs.
Lucas lives in Spotswood but barracks for Geelong!
Are we still a chance to pick him up father son?

Is there a limit on father-son drafts?
If you have two can you have nomore?
I thought you could keep going, If the kid is a gun we should try and get him especially if as the third father son draft we have to give up pick 98 to get him.
night games not included in father-son rule)Originally posted by desipura
If the 49 games stat is right (still a glimmer of hope that it's not), Lucas is as good as gone.
Clayton seems to be a bigger fan of the younger son, Lachlan. How about we draft Robbie McGhie with a pre season pick, play him in one game, and then get Lachlan for a third round pick in next year's draft? (yes, I'm kidding ... unless Lachlan's likely to be a #1 choice and a future superstar of the game).
This is not as silly as it sounds.
Barry Lawrence sat on the bench in the QAFL at the age of 57 as he had played 49 games for Fitzroy.
This allowed Brisbane to pick up his son Steven Lawrence who has since gone to St Kilda.
Gee, I would hate to think we missed out on picking up a quality key position player by one game!
I hope the doggies explore all avenues to get at least one of the McGhie's.

It seems a shame that the father/son rule can be exploited in this way, especially considering the Bulldogs will miss out on a player because his Dad played only one game short of the 50 required. Even worse when you consider how much of a local identity Robbie McGhie is in local football with Spotswood.

Why not put Robbie on the supp list now, promote him, play him this season-hell it might even bolster our defence-and then claim Lucas with a father/son in November.![]()
