Spoken about on the footy show that he wants a 2 year deal and essendon only offering one. Any interest from anyone on this board?
Although he is 31 at seasons end he could help us unless Grant is pushing for selection by the end of this season.

After recruiting Welsh (29) I strongly doubt they would recruit a 31yr old who would only play for 2 yrs max.

We have Murph at CHF and Welsh at FF/HF...there is no need for Lucas.

Will not even consider it for me he is to old and we have young KPP in Grant, Everitt and Williams coming through the ranks so lets invest in them for a year or two and I bet they will start to pay off.

Really?

You think a fit Lucas wouldn't make our starting 22? And would not make a big difference?

Grant is years off and the other two are defenders.

Didnt say he would not make our best 22. What I'm saying is that why would we recruit a 31 yr old forward, who's has just had major knee surgery, into a team that is kicking more goals than anyone else. It would be a waste of a draft pick and a huge waste of salary cap space.

I did say a fit Lucas. I suppose it depends upon how you view our "window".

Would have no problem with a two year deal with Lucas. If Lucas was up forward next year our depth would be mighty good.

I think our window is now and next year for a crack at the flag.

West, Johno, Eagleton, Hudson, and Welsh's window will close at the end off 2009 and would be good to get the boys a flag.

No thanks, too old and the knee injury would be of concern.

We've recruited mature age players in recent times; Aker, Hudson, Welsh along with having West, Johnson in their final years.

Adding Lucas to that list would deprive us a young future prospect and our list turnover in a few years would be massive (experience/quality wise)

If we are handing out 3 year deals to 30yos, why wouldnt we hand a 2 year deal to a 31yo?

He was in career best form before hurting his knee - youd want to put that knee through the ringer before gambling on it, but so far, our gambles on Hudson, Aker and Welsh are looking inspired.

Great player but I wouldn't give a top draft pick up for him and who in / around the current 22 would you be willing to trade?
Cam wight + Wayde skipper + Pick 60? :p

Keeping him fit would be a big job in itself.

And with our forward line kicking over 100 each week I think he's addition would only be of a minimal if any benefit.

Another point, we have just recruited over the past couple years a few players in their late 20's and early 30's. I think anymore recruited around that age would be a problem for our list balance.

I would love it if we gave him a 2 year deal.. was in career best form unil he got injured. Is a very smart footballer, and could teach our young blokes a thing or two...top up our list, cause this is our window!

And if a player still tempted me around that 30 age group, it would be more likely a player such as Tom Harley from Geelong who could come into an area we are deficient in.

Our Defence.

You wouldnt go head-hunting Lucas, but you would be mad not to consider a cheap deal if it was on offer. We picked up all those old guys on the cheap precisely because they were a cheap opportunistic deal - nominated the dogs as the preferred club.

Lucas would be the same boat. Late second rounder might do it if he wanted to come here.

I love this comment. Close enough to be on topic to get away with it but still a little odd. Yes, lets have a crack at the Geelong captain who nobody really rates as a great defender but a pretty good addition none the less......did I mention our backline sucks? Just thought i'd mention it even if nobody cares.:D

Not sure whether or not he would fit the dynamic of our forward line the way it stands now, but if he comes cheap then I wouldn't mind having him in the mix. Wouldn't go chasing him aggressively if it was my call.

Could you imaging Akers brain cooking while Lucas swings around on to his left from seventy metres out one minute, and Johnson running into goals with the blinkers on the next, with Aker being free on both occasions?

If Lucas was to leave the Doggies are the only club I wouldn't be heart broken seeing him play for. He wouldn't come to cheap though, knowing Essendon from past trade dealings they are very strong in getting the best deal.

They'd most likely ask for a 1st rounder and possibly a bit player with potential, he could very well be the difference between a premiership or not.

Would you be interested in say 1st rounder and Farren Ray (I've noticed you guys are losing faith with him)

P.S no need to jump down my throat, remember I don't make the decisions just asking what he'd be worth for you guys.

Wow. This is exactly the problem isn't it. Some people had Ray in the votes last week and it was his second game back. He's a keeper and worth a first rounder by himself. As for giving away our first round pick as well? Hmm that's already going to Ayce Cordy.

Lucas simply isn't worth that much to any club. If Essendon are asking a first round pick for a 31 year old then he'll end up in the PSD. If I was the Dons i'd be signing him up for another 2 years cause he's not worth trading.

Love this trade talk rubbish for a player out off contract. If hes out off contract you get nothing unless he wants to negotiate and help out the club and considering they won't give him 2 years why would he look after anyone but himself. He will put a price on his head and go PSD simple. No draft picks needed by anyone just salary cap room.
