Cook has all the physical atributes.

Will be good to see if he can clean that kicking up and put on a little kg here or there.

Goes very hard at it, and is a speed machine.

Yeah, he's in my top couple of players I want to see that we haven't really seen properly yet. (Along with McKernan, I can't split those two in my mind)

My order of excitement for players that I want to see next year that didn't play the majority of this season (I'm including Walker in that category) are:

1 & 2 - McKernan, Cook
3 - Sloane
4 - Davis
5 - Petrenko
6 - Young

I reckon all but Young are a good chance of playing next year too :thumbsu:

In advance my biggest hope for 2011 is to see Hendo playing :D

so not keen on watching walker then?

in adelaide's list of youngsters he's the one with the most natural ability - worth watching for the one piece of 'how'd that happen moment 'each match.

adelaide would be silly (imo) to not play him from round 1 - let him and tippett work together for extended periods so that they know each other's game style sooner rather than later; this understanding could be crucial to making a viable premiership challenge.

personally, i'd challenge burton to get superfit - even by his standards and play him off the wing and only throw him forward when walker has a rest - if of course he has to play at all. the other thing i'd like to see is porplyzia have a greater role in the middle during ballups - his extraction skills are as good as anybody's; then go forward after the ballup.

No, I'm very keen on watching Walker, he's the one I'm looking forward to the most other than Dangerfield, but my (perhaps ambiguous) comment was that I include Walker in the list of players who played a decent amount this season already. I can't wait to see what he does next year :thumbsu:

I reckon he'll be in the team come round 1, deservedly so.

To have Doughty and Reilly ahead of Ball next year would be stupid. I'd take Ball well before those two. I hope we give Sloane plenty of game time though next season.

Most likely Ball will cost the same as the other three combined...still want him?

Once Myke Cook fires up on the wing we won't talk about the midfield as a problem ever again. Not even when he retires, because opposition players will simply stand there shocked at his awesomeness (thus allowing our future midfield to waltz around them) for several years after he hangs up the boots. Actually he won't even hang up his boots because there will be no boots left to hang up, they'll be incinerated due to his crazy pace, while spare pairs in his bag will spontaneously combust from the thrill of being next in line for the title of "Myke Cook's Current Pair of Football Boots."

His stocks would have dropped this season, seeing as he was out of the St Kilda team a couple of times. Wouldn't command the same salary he would have 12-24 months ago.

I'd love us to get him. Reckon we are one genuine inside midfielder short. When an opposition team gets a run on we are almost invisible in the centre square, and repeated centre breaks against us only compound the damage.

It was notable that while our young players made some giant strides this season, when the heat was really on it was still Goodwin and Edwards being rushed back into the middle to support Thompson.

Don't necessarily disagree, but just wait till Rodney develops the tank to be a permanent midfielder, this bloke will be the king of all stoppages in a year or so's time, this bloke will have us going "Simon who?" Seriously, had there been an extra 15-30 seconds in the Collingwood SF, this bloke would have won us the match, he had the clearance won following Anothony's goal, just didn't have time to settle and deliver. This bloke is the kind of bloke will still be busting his gut to win the footy when all others have given up, superstar gamebreaker in the making.

After the third or fourth viewing I noticed that. Danger never gives up.

You masochist:o How could you watch it a 2nd time, let alone third or fourth?

First time I was fairly well drunk

Second time was the morning after.

Third and fourth was just that last couple of minutes.

(Sounds like a New Kids on the Block song)

Haha, yeah does too:D.

I was relatively drunk when I watched it(and proceeded to get even more so, but that's another story), but just remember watching Danger bust his gut to win that final clearance, assured me beyond any doubt(not that there was any, more so the chocolate sprinkles on the icing on the cake;)) that he would just be a superstar. His talent/ability + his athletic abilities + his attitude/mindset = dead set gun, no two bits about it.

I watched the last quarter of that match today, how good was the first hard ball get he got after the Anthony goal, there was a huge pack of players over the ball, you see Danger standing at the edge of the pack, he reaches in underneath the pile of bodies, grabs the ball and he's outta there before anyone realises he's got it. This is a 19 year old kid we're talking about.

Yep that is what impresses me so much about him. He just takes the ball, from anyone. You can teach kids to kick, handball even awareness, but you cant teach that. It's pure instinct and strength. He is fast becoming my favourite player, which fares well for part of my username.

Instead of Ball, why don't we go after another Luke: Luke Ablett has been delisted by the Swans after his season was ruined by injury. He is pretty much as good as Ball in contested ball winning, can tag and we could get him cheap as chips.

For a 4th rounder (pick 61) surely he wouldn't be a bad pickup?

I made many dream team errors this year but Luke Ablett was by far the biggest. Second only to hanging on to Andrew Raines.

Almost not worth dignifying with an answer but I am bored.

He surely surely surely would be a bad pickup. He is at best a solid player, at worst a poor player. He wouldn't get a game for the Crows and you wouldn't want him to as he would be taking the spot of someone like Sloane, Parenko, Cook etc who are players who could be really good and need game time to develop. Also it would prevent us from taking another kid in the draft who could be good (you never know with drafts). We need all the kids we can get going forward into further compromised drafts. If Luke Ablett was selected I would demand the sacking of the entire coaching staff.

we don't need all these kids going forward into compromised drafts unless we want to be a team all about tomorrow, and never today. already I worry people are too happy to be up and coming, rather than actually contending in the here and now.

besides you can only play so many. a good player has a 10 year career.

I agree - I think he's worth 29 and we should do it IF he's still there. But he's gone to Essendon for mine.

I don't think he gets past Brisbane at 27.
I also don't think gets to brisbane either.

essendon makes sense, they need some hard inside extracting players to complement their mosquito fleet of front runners.

Yeah, its often a tough line to draw between whether we go all out for the premiership, or do we still look for another year of development. The worry I have with going after Ball, is which one we're actually going to get.

Is it the All Australian, Captain at 22 who was picked between Hodge and Judd, or is it the perenially injured, plodder who at best is another fringe player, who probably doesn't offer a whole lot more than say a Mick Doughty or a Brad Symes.

If its the former, I'd say yes, but if its more than likely the later, then I'd probably prefer we look at drafting a younger player.

I read this morning that Ball has put a $500k price tag on his head for year 1 & 2 of a 3 year deal, this reason alone we will not draft him

I too am over the Ball saga he will end up at either Collingwood or Essendon, most likely Essendon as they have couple picks prior Collingwood's pick 30

Melb and the Lions are also keen however it all comes down to whether they are willing to call Ball's managers bluff as he is attempting to scare clubs off by telling all clubs except Essendon and Collingwood that Ball is prepared to take a season off footy and travel o/s if he is not selected by one of his clubs of choice. I always thought that this strategy was considered as draft tampering

Ball will end up at the Bombers unless Melbourne is willing to call Ball's bluff

if you even think its reasonable to mention Ball and symes together then I am demoting you to Riggy status!! :p

Haha, yeah probably a little harsh on Luke:D, just making the point that if we were to fork out the cash for Ball, it'd want to be the real deal and not just some pale immetation thanks to all his injury woes (as his struggling to get into the Saint's side might suggest).

Did i just read that Ball was a plodder ? At best a fringe 22 player ?

Am I overrating Luke Ball or are people seriously under rating him ?
