Will surely dominate next year in the TAC, just missed out on GC i heard. Is a massive unit, will be the dominant forward of the competition. Just got to get that goal kicking a little refined.

Mitchell is very developed, and his kicking is generally quite good from what I have seen, although can be inconsistent. Knocks on him are athleticism, big kid dominating skinny juniors, defensive pressure improvement needed, average ATM.

If he doesn't improve his athletic ability he will find himself in the same situation as Temel. Mitchell has been in the system for years now and the selectors know him well. Didn't improve much this year and is a man playing against boys - same as Temel.

Love the kid and hope he makes it but he must stat running NOW.

It hasn't taken me long to find this thread... :D

Watchout is right though, seeing guys like Temel miss out (and you could put Luke McDonald, even Kyle Hartigan into that category) should be a wake up call that just being big and strong guarantees nothing, plenty of hard work ahead and glad to hear he's started some running work.

bit rough I reckon posters. i think Mitchell gets around ok. clearly can improve but he gets around a lot better than Temel does.....and i still cannot believe he didnt go. he will be right up there come 2010 draft day.

Temel's attitude was a big reason towards why he didn't get picked up. If he's got an excellent work ethic he's already well ahead.

From my experience is deceptively quick, and has a tank (as you can see from the work up the ground in the Tac GF). The agility needs to be worked on without a doubt.

Working with a running coach is good news if true.

Im not sure temel is a good comparison...

Probably not, but it did show that being big or strong but one dimensional doesn't cut it. And even though he's a defender seeing Kyle Hartigan, who many had as a first rounder this time 12 months ago, miss out on even a rookie spot should be a good reminder that a player has to continue to improve throughout their top age year.

You know my stance on Luke Mitchell anyway Tiger. No harm putting the slows on him, don't want to see him go too early to the GC. :D

Yeah absolutely

Agility, clean hands below knees, defensive pressure and a slightly awkward kicking style. A few things Mitchell can continue to work on. Saying that I thought both he and Temel should have been Metro representatives last year and if they performed ok they may have found themselves on an AFL list.
With no school footy this year you would expect Mitchell to be a force in the TAC.
Serhat Temel was really stiff for mine. People criticising his attitude are a bit off the mark for mine. He improved dramatically as the year progressed from what I know from those really in the know. He really was let down by not being a natural endurance athlete, doing very little over 2 preseasons and running a horrible beep at screening. His challenge is to prove he is no Tim Bongetti and can really dominate the game at the next level. The difference between Casboult and Temel and negligible however one has the chance to flourish in an AFL environment while the other will need to slog it out at Coburg.

I saw him play quite a few times in 2008 and in front of goal from a set shot at distance I thought he was a pretty good kick, in fact I reckon he converted 80% or more in the 3 or 4 games I saw him play. He fell away last year, particularly in the finals where seemed to rush and the more he missed, the more he looked jittery.

It wouldn't surprise me if some muppet coach whose trying to justify their job has tried to 'refine' his goalkicking and in the end has buggered up something which wasn't really too bad to begin with. So my advice to Luke would be go back to what you were doing in 2008.
