Ronchi is a gun, best keeper/batsman in first class cricket at the moment.

My second choice would be Hartley.

Haddin is too old now, Paine is overrated.

wouldn't be surprised to see Ronchi have a hit in the 20/20 World Cup later this year...
I reckon about half of the squad that go to the real WC this month won't be playing then - so it will be a good opportunity to see a few others - and his game is ideally suited to 20/20

yep ronchi for the 20/20 world cup only as a batsmen even because you would still pick gilchrist as well.
definately behind haddin atm but if haddin takes over for 4/5/6 years then ronchi will be around that 28/29/30 age and should be ready to take over.

Yep send him and a whole lot of young bucks to the 20/20 comp.

It doesn't rate as much of a tournament, btu would be perfect for the young bucks to get invaluable internatioanl experience.

gilchrist will retire from ODIs and 20/20 after the WC - if not all cricket I reckon.

Haddin will come in as replacement keeper - and I think Ronchi isn't a bad one to pick for the 20/20 squad - even if he plays in the same side as Haddin as a batsman

Haddin has to come in. He is in his Prime now... he's still gonig to be in his rpime when Gilly retires- I would think that is very very soon. I would then look at the younger guys. WE have many young keepers who could do a good job but we will have to see who performs over time.

Gilly was 29 when he made his debut for Aus

Good thing Ronchi isn't Victorian- we'd have numerous threads about how he is a certainty for the World Cup and how the selectors are biased against him for making him stay in the domestic comp....

We have several good young keepers coming along ATM- will be fun to see the timing on Gilly's retirement/axing- remember Heals was dumped unceremoniously for Gilly a decade ago....could it happen again?

Looks like it's not just Victorians who have a penchant for distorting reality ;)

Probably agree with the first bit though (but I'd also add that we would also have numerous counter-threads over-stating how crap he was).

Where did I distort reality? Heals was dumped...replaced by Gilchrist. Didn't get an opportunity to say farewell in a test before the adoring Queensland supporters....The Brisbane test was either the next one up or after a very short tour....CA could have easily allowed him the chance to bow out on his home ground, without harming the team much. Just about everyone knew that Gilly would be the keeper. But, hey- that was the decision....
