Did anyone else see the luminous spider bird that was out last night?

Skinny boys from Belfast really can't dance but they sure did play a good gig :D

I was sitting in the corner section, down near the corporate boxes directly opposite those girls - they were great. Loved the the little wave they got going during the encore waiting section.

It was refreshing to hear a band in concert that sounded pretty much the same as they do on their cd! I suppose they need to pad out their concert as they only have the one cd of songs to play, so it was nice to hear a singer converse with the crowd. Helps that he is a very funny bugger.

Couldn't believe the people that did the normal adelaide trick of leaving early when the band started playing their final song. Saw this one guy that was leaving with his gf that was singing along to the song and seemed really into it but were leaving anyway.

One other annoyance is that they would sell you a bottled drink but take the caps off at the touring companies request. Seemed a strange thing to do when they have vending machines that sell for the same price and you get the cap on the bottle!

If you were at Snow Patrol on Wednesday you would understand the luminous spider bird ;)

There were 4 girls in the audience up on the city side and they had glow sticks in each hand and were waving them about to the music, so all you could see were these eight bright coloured glowsticks dancing about. They were pointed out by Gary (the singer) and he asked if anyone else in the audience had also seen the "luminous spider bird in it's natural habitat, a concert in adelaide" :D He had the lights brought up so the girls could take a bow.

Some people also brought along a sign that said Queen's College Belfast which he also pointed out and said that he was originally from Belfast and Queen's College was the university that wouldn't let him attend as he was too dumb. So he thanked them for reminding him of that - funny man.

Yeh i think that is annoying too. I am part of a management team at sporting venue and am one of the people who has to explain to all of the people why they can't have their lids on. Its actually not the management that cares its the people hiring out the venue that request it, i.e. the sporting team. So people next time you think to abuse the messenger (the person giving you the drink) think about the blisters on their hand from having to take lids off all night - we hate it and think its stupid just as much as you do. I mean if someone is going to throw something it doesn't really matter if the lid is off, they'll throw it anyway.
Tip just buy your drink from somewhere else (like the hotdog stand or as Nikki says vending machines).

Aye, the crowd interplay seems to be a bit rarer these days, at least at the concerts of newish groups I've been to in the last couple years, and it's a real shame. I love watching the classic performances of people like Springsteen and Prince on youtube etc, even though I'm not a massive fan of either of them. They're real showmen. Would love to see them live. Often, I'll go see a band live and they'll do little else than drop the name of the city they're playing, before playing 3 album tracks, announce that the bass player hooked up with a hot bird last time they were here, and play 3 more album tracks. It's bullshit. I'd rather just listen to the cd if they're going to do that. Stage presence is very important, but often overlooked. Still, there's plenty of good artists out there who love to put on a show. Robbie Williams, although I'm not a fan, is a good example. I went over the Melbourne in the hopes of seeing Gogol Bordello live, back in March, not only because I'm a big fan, but because they have a reputation for being a sensational live group. Unfortunately, they screwed up their visas, and couldn't get into the country, which was great. All 3 other bands sucked ass.

I remember once I went to a work christmas party where the bar tab was unlimited, but I had to drive to a 21st later in the evening, so I couldn't drink. I figured I might as well reward myself for my hard work in the previous year and take a few beers home with me. The barman, however, was having none of it and refused to give me the drinks without taking the tops off first. Jerk. I took 6 home with me anyway, which was, in hindsight, a very very stupid decision. My car still stinks of booze :(

It's why I didn't hesitate when friends said that they were getting tickets for Robbie and Timberlake and if I wanted go. Not the greatest fans of either but the showmanship you know you are going to get is well worth it.

Funnily enough the best person live I have ever seen is Melissa Etheridge  Girl knows how to work a crowd! I have even seen U2 with BB King and in terms of getting an audience involved she just beats them.
