Lumumba in trouble?

I've been thinking about this. Lumumba is a depth player this year. I don't know if it's a Sampson thing, but although many on here think he's been great this year, and his endeavour has always been fantastic, I just reckon he isn't as damaging as he was previous years setting up plays from defence.

Anyways, he hasn't done much wrong, but yeah, he may be in trouble but I think the selectors, from where we are at, respects experience, and whilst Lumumba has carried on like a dick of field, at times, he's generally a well liked good guy, so I think for these reasons he will get the nod over say a Taylor Adams and co.

Loving this problem thought.

I typically am not a massive Harry fan, but when played on the wing he has been in our best most weeks, its only last 2 weeks when forced to move back to backline to cover injuries. What games have you been watching?

Lumumba's best is definitely best 18 material. His drop in form following 2011 was part of the reason that our back six looked easily penetrable. It is a team game but I think there's definitely a correlation between Heretier getting his confidence back and our improvement so far this year. It hasn't been the most important factor but it has been significant.

Stop living in the past. He has learnt very little since 2009. The only time he gets a dash of half back or anywhere is when someone gives him the ball. If he marks a ball he usually stops. He is not a good kick, he has good straight run and is bulky. When he gets dropped, he's gone...just like Maxwell.

What made Harry great in his 2010 AA year was his ability to shut down small to medium defenders while providing dash out of defence. He played a line breaker role in the back pocket and if he ever ran into trouble he was able to use his evasion skills to get himself out of trouble. It was great to watch. I still think he possess these skills but he is being asked to play on the wing, using his work rate up and down the ground to provide a link between defence and attack. This particular role is very taxing and unlike his 2010 year he is being asked to kick the ball. Have you ever run 1500 metres at full speed to kick a drop punt onto the chest of a leading forward. It's requires a lot of poise and balance. Hopefully the coaches are working their way around this. I still hold a lot of hope for him and think he can fit into the team in the future.

His defensive accountability is not what it used to be, but he has had a role change and will be out of the backline again before long. Still best 22.

Said this in the selection thread..

Not sure how you can have Fazm Young, Maxwell and toov coming back and keep H with his form atm.

I would certainly have Young and Faz over H and Dwyer is a lock as well on the wing so I think he sould be dropped until he stops with the clangers.

The guy is our biggest line breaker, the way he comes out of close quarters sometimes is incredible. He's an enigma; sometimes he tries to do a little too much, but he just has way too many qualities to drop.

Lumumba has been much better than Dwyer this season yet Dwyer is a lock and Lumumba is in trouble:confused:

Dwyer has not played as many games due to injury..........If we were under pressure in a tight situation, I know who's hand I would like the ball to rest in.

Let me guess, not Lumumba? When are you going to give it up mate, honestly?

With all due respect, is this thread still going?

He may get pushed out at some point down the track if a kid in the VFL develops well enough to take over on that wing (or if somebody else comes into the club in the next off-season and provides a better alternative), but until that bittersweet day comes, H is best 22 when fit and firing. A full complement of defenders to choose from and Lumumba doesn't even look at the back half, let alone play in it...
