I'm looking at getting a laptop in the near future but I don't really have any idea what I need. It would be replacing my home computer so it needs to be something that is capable of doing almost everything, not just for basic use.

I'm not big on PC games but everything else goes.

Any advice would be great at this point!

wots everything?

surfing for pr0n?

producing videos for TV? video for the web?

composing music? producing music?

laying out magazines/websites?

writing novels?

big screen or portability?

top of the line Macbook Pro with 17" no glare wide angle screen and 8Gb of RAM + 500Mb 7200RPM HDD + 512Mb GT330M = $3900

that'll run pretty much anything you throw at it, including the videos for TV if you want to do that.

about 1K cheaper with 4Gb of RAM, the glossy screen, 5400 RPM drive and a 2.53 rather than 2.66 processor.

if you're going to be doing all that a Dell Precision 17" Laptop will start at $4100 with Quadra FX graphics. these can optioned up to frightening levels. 16GB of RAM and 320GB Raid 0 HDDs and a Quadra 38000 will cost about $6100. but like the Mac any photo/video/music will run like a Concorde.

pr0n should be much of muchness on both of them!
