Macca back

seriously, nothing to be achieved by playing him. It is detrimental to the squad long term every game he plays.

I would agree if we had any beter options running around, he will and should get a game this weekend for mine...and trust me im not a Macca fan. Next year Foster, Hase and Dessie will be fit (touch wood) and Hinkley will be gaining some weight. Add the new draft picks and we will have some decent "ins". Macca wont be keeping anyone from that group out.

Harvey stated a few weeks back that Brock O'brien would not play until he learnt to adhere to the team rules. He now must prove himself to the coaching staff that he can play,by week in and week out, playing good TEAM football at Peel.

250 games not out of the question?

How many has he got to go?

How is it that Peter Bell, who's got more skills in a freckle on his nads than Shaun does, knows when it's time to leave while he's still at his peak... Matty Carr, who retired more for quality of life, but also realised that his best is now past him, yet Shaun, who no-one can doubt his determination and endeavour, can't seem to twig that it's time for him to hang up the boots... take a leaf of out Dale Kickett's book for christ's sake, and honorably step aside and let the young kids have a crack at it...

If he want to keep playing, stay with East Freo and help rebuild that club...

If he gets offered another contract with Freo, I'll be astounded...

I reckon he wants one. Some people just have to be pushed.

Shades of Clive Waterhouse...

Take a look at the rest of the league and see how many players are older than 32, then consider what they've done with their careers...
sometimes I think that's he's stubborn because he co-captained the club... thinks he deserves to go out on his terms because of that fact alone...

I think the Macca situation will be one of the defining moves by the club, along with the number of players delisted\traded. We cannot stuff this up.

The club shouldn't be put in a position where it can stuff it up. Macca is in a perfect position TODAY to what is right for the club and himself. He has earned his spot back through hard work at East Freo (combined with the large number of unavailable players at Freo), and he WILL play this weekend.

Why not call a press conference, announce that this game against Melbourne will be his last game for the club, and go out in style with the Freo faithful giving him the sendoff he deserves.

The pressure will then be off for the club to select him for a sendoff when perhaps his WAFL form may not warrant it.

A perfect opportunity.

True Freocuz but we see all the time people in positions of power/fame/influence find it hard to let go. Whether it's Politicians who just won't go despite being caught with their pants down or hands in the till, or Actors with great reps who decide to do just one more film despite it being an obvious turkey, or fading C grade pop stars who for some inexplicable reason trash any credibility they may have had by appearing on Dancing With the Stars or some other horrible reality show.

There wouldn't be too many better jobs than being an AFL footy player out there and it must be pretty addictive to run onto the ground in front of 40,000 screaming fans.

As they say you are a long time retired.

I don't agree with this. If you look at my list above and see that the only available player not in the 25 is Hinkley (who most agree is a good pre-season away from being ready for AFL) then we need Macca to stay on. If Macca walks, it may mean that one of Palmer, Mayne or Ibbotson are forced to play on when they need to be rested. Where is the benefit to the club in that?

ETA : I do agree that his time is up and would rather not have him out there, but with the injuries and suspensions we've got, I'd rather him out there than risking others who may have something to offer in the future.

Thing is freocuz we are very short on available players at the moment so it would be the wrong move for Macca to retire this week.

I don't think the issue is that McManus should retire this week... more that we think he should retire by the end of the year, but there's a possibility that he won't want to...

It's not too hard to call a home game, maybe the Peter Bell one or maybe not, and say this is the one... go out in a manner of style and grace befitting a club champion...
He'll do the right thing by the club (kids policy), everyone will give him the send off that he deserves, and it's all sweet...

The problem will be if he doesn't announce his retirement... then whatever legacy he could've left behind will be tarnished beyond repair, and he loses the opportunity to go out on his terms, because the club will make that decision for him...

When there were reports of his retirement, he called a press conference just to say he wasn't retiring ... who on earth does that? He went on to say how disrespectful and hurtful it was for people to be making stories up about his retirement. Fair enough, but I didn't like his attitude that he was owed all sorts of respect for his contribution to football in this state. The way he spoke made me think he honestly believes he is some kind of living treasure for modern WA football on par with Bell, Matera etc.

Bradley deserves more game time.

Its all about finding as much out about our list and see who are worth keeping. It be nice to try an avoid another Medhurst just for the sake of playing Macca whos going to be retired. When we are down to 21 fit players then we play Macca.

We should also be working on our 22 for next year as well.

Absolutely agree!
Give Macca one last Derby to revel in and then bye bye!:thumbsu:

His retirement won't make any difference at all so whats the hurry.
If he tries to get another and they say no then he is going out on his terms, because he said a while back that he understands where he sits.

What about Calib Mourish? How is his WAFL form, surely he is a possible replacememnt for Farmer.
