Daniel Jackson >>>> Kane Johnson

Jackson kept Simon Black (who had 37 possies last week) to 16 ineffectual touches while gathering 14 himself, and a goal. He got the #1 tagging job this week and pulled it off.

Meanwhile Kane Johnson's constant backwards kicking (which was a key feature of his game since his first kick of the year) was the only time he hit a target. Kick it forward and he stuffs it up.

He is embarassing.

Any other player would have hit Richard Tambling on the chest to allow the kid to kick the winning goal after the siren (he was only 10 metres to the side of Johnson's crap kick).

Our Bling would have won the game after the siren!

...but Johnson says he is more than happy to walk away with a draw. Pathetic attitude.

What happened to the "winning mentality" he had at Adelaide? Why can't he say "anything less than a win is not good enough"?

I predicted Jacko to have his breakout game 2 weeks ago, but Madtiger has been saying Jackson is better than Johnson for months.

After tonight, I am convinced.

He was right :thumbsu:

give jacko a few games and he'll be taking the opposition on with confidence. He roughed up Black nicely and Black got his touches by getting a teamate to block jacko's run at the huddles

LMAO:D

Jackson played a good game tonight, probably his best in the Yellow and Black, but still needs to show a bit more if he wants to be hear at the end of the year!

He's already shown a lot more than quite a few others.

3 goals last week. Successfully tagged Braun (to big applause by Terry), and now he has successfully tagged Simon Black while pushing forward to kick a goal.

For a 20yo who was late to Aussie Rules I'd say he's more than on his way to a new contract :thumbsu:

If he was treated fairly by Terry he would have been playing regulalry for 2 seasons now. He kicks goals in almost every game he plays now

How was he late to Aussie Rules?

He was playing for a while IIRC.

It was that he missed out on almost a full year of footy in his first year though.

Jackson is potentially capable of being the big bodied, goal-kicking, hurt them going the other way tagger which Johnson can only dream of with his efforts this season.

After his 'happy with a draw' comment, Johnson should be sent to Coburg reserves next week, then made to get down on his knees and beg the rest of the seniors to forgive him before he gets another game.

We can't afford to have blokes like him under-performing and being paid excellent money to be satisfied with personally mediocre/poor efforts week after week.

Good captain's can only lead by either on-field inspiration and application, or being a vocal, smart player who instructs and acts as an on-field member of the coaching staff.

Johnson falls way short on either measure and 95% of his captaincy has been the same.

lol at getting excited over jackson, this is how pathetic our season has gotten

he is a mark bolton mk2

as for johnson he is just following the tradition of past richmond captains over the last 15 years

duds!

Was effectively drafted a year early and had only been playing school footy for a year or two as I recall...came from an athletics background with a reputation of having a very big motor and good body size.

Sometimes those sort of selections take a while to click and learn the things which come instinctively to the smarter players who breath football from an early age. Fortunately for us, Jackson seems to be growing in confidence and capability with every senior game this year.

you obviously know your footy dude. 16 ineffectual touches huh? I bet you are tickled pink at the way our midfiled dynamos, made the Lions pay with there "effectual" hundred and one touches. Black is a class act. From his 16 touches i can safely say, 12 of them were a thousand times more tellng than 90% of ours. ;)

he's already better than bolton and he's really only played about 10 full games worth and has been given minimum opportunity

yeah I agree, BUT without Brown we don't have a player of the Black ilk out on the field, but Jacko did a reasonable job because that meant the less classy Brisbane mids had to pick up more of the slack. And they turned it over almost as much as we did. If Black had 30 touches we would have lost.

You're right, and I agree. Our midfield was still terrible and is a large reason why we haven't won a game. Brisbane's midfield on the other hand has several experience multi-premiership players in it. Maybe my wording was wrong, rather than ineffectual touches I should have said ineffective ability to make a serious impact on the outcome of the game. :thumbsu:

Simon Black was average and Nathan Foley's 26 possies helped our team more than Black's. Jackson's 15 possies nullified Black to a degree but were not as 'smart', the goal is what equalled things out.

I'd say it was a big win for Jacko because when it is 73 - 73 the game comes down to the smallest of things.

I guess Sherman should be given the same credit as Jackson, both stopped an opponent's dominant player.

I hate our midfield. I'm sick of watching them screw up elementary skills. I'm dying for Generation Next to do something. Deledio and Tambling had a combined total of 19 possies.

Pendelbury and Thomas are already 5 times better.

Next year we will have Coughlan, Simmonds and Knobel(if he is kept) back. Polo will be bigger hopefully. Jacko will improve with more games and Foley will continue his strong form. Tuck will be fitter and Connors will be pushing for the seniors. Things are looking the goods. Our main problem has been Patto can't get first hands to the ball, so the opposition midfield has the big advantage every game. If we get the first draft pick, we must get Kruezer. We'll also get another midfielder in the draft to strengthen the middle. Newman is another option for the middle if Casserley comes into the backline. Don't discount Hartigan either. If he can't get over injury he is another player I see alot of potential in.

Do either of them get tagged like Lids does though?

In a thread a couple of months ago when we were talking on him whether he should be playing in the middle, or HBF/wing, it was suggested he needs to learn to break through the tags and will never learn by being protected in the backline or up forward. Wallace seems to be now taking that approach and only threw him forward at times to try and give him some freedom, (although Sherman went with him).

Sherman did a 'good' tagging job, but as I said in another thread, the umpires, although I am sick of all the 'soft' frees going on, need to be paying more of these, Ling on Kerr a few weeks ago being the classic case of a tagger illegally all day holding and shepherding off the ball and getting away with it every time.

Lids copped that all night, and the free in the square for the goal was maybe a little soft, but he was shepherded, and I think it was meant to be a heavily penalised one on Sherman by saying, 'we have let you hold him off the ball at every stoppage so far, so stop it, OK!!'. But last week he showed what he can do when he gets some space and now he needs to get in like Foley and 'get noticed' by the umpires (like Judd) and then the taggers will be noticed more holding him. On the fringes, the taggers get away with it because you are a bystander and would be considered way too soft paying a free out there. I like him on the HBF/wing for the rest of the year with short stints in the middle for the experience and make the more permanent move onball next season.

Tambing, well, not sure where he is at. Another preseason on the weights and he could make the step.
