According to multiple reports, team CEO Vander Weide resigned on Tuesday after almost 20 years with the club. Why did he resign, you ask? Well, that’s where it gets interesting.
It appears as though the decision for Weide to step down came just days after he reportedly made a drunken call in the early morning hours to Howard, begging the superstar to stay with Orlando. He admitted this much in an interview with the Bright House Sports Network (BHSN).

Daralene Jones, a reporter from WFTV, grilled Vander Weide on the details of a late-night phone call to Magic center Dwight Howard.

Jones was persistent, at one point quoting details of the conversation. “We’ve got nothing else. Orlando is a terrible place, and we’ve got the Amway thing, but who the [bleep] cares,” Jones quoted Vander Weide as saying.

One problem: The ‘story was from Deadspin.com, a Web site that often puts a sarcastic or humorous spin on the news, with the occasional sports parody (as in this story).
