What do people think of Mahler?

He's won over the distance, is carrying no weight, drew a good barrier, and isn't likely to be too affected too adversely by a wet track.

Can he get out in front and stay ahead of the stayers like Zipping and Gallic, and stave off Master O'Reilly?

I was astounded when i found out he was only 3 years old and had only 6 starts.

Definite no for me, he goes against everything i look for in the Melbourne Cup (older horses, lots of miles in the legs, internationals need a run in Melbourne before the Cup)

I thought he was a 4 year old with 7 starts for 3 wins and a second

I like him. I love a horse that can sit on the pace, and we know that he'll run out the distance, which is a query over half the runners. I'll be keeping him safe.

Was quite keen on him until I realised that it hasn't had a run for nearly 8 weeks. Not ideal IMO. However he will handle all conditions and might be a pain in rump for the multi's.

Just looking at form guide now and it would appear as though this is his first ever race in open company.
Geez they sure picked a big one for him to take on the older horses.

I like it the more i see of it....if it is able to lead or position up front it may be hard to reel in with 50.5 on it. Ran 2nd in the St Leger where the 3rd horse was 8 lengths back.
