Gday all havent seen the replay of the cup yet as i didnt fancy getting up at 4am to listen to it on the radio!
I backed Efficient at 16/1 over here at my local bookies where i am in the UK at the moment.

But from what my old man said Mahler is one to follow for next years cup.
Aidan O'Brien is an excellent trainer, all his horses are top class

impressive front running effort, but wont beat the hanpicapper next time

Great effort & a fine training performance from a fine trainer.
Good news for the race that both he & PM ran so well.

Will be interesting to see if Aidan sticks with the 1st up into the Cup theory or adjusts like the other internationals & runs at Caulfield?
Quickly learnt from last year that you need a certain type of horse.

Agree totally, it appears proven European G1 stayers aren't the go anymore because thay are weighted out of it, so in the future i think more lightly raced up and coming types will be sent over.

I'll put my hand up and say I thought Mahler would flop.
However, it was a bloody good run and I'll happily eat my words.

Think his chances would definitely have been aided by gaining some racing experience in Aus in either the Geel or Caulf cups (both of which have been used successfully in the past). A great effort- will be interesting to see if O'Brien brings Mahler back again, given he may well have won a couple of group 1s by then.
