Am i the only one that seems to think that as bad as we played on Thursday night that all the doom and gloom on this board and calls to sack the coach, etc etc are ridiculous.

I'm as fed up and gutted by Thursdays performance as anyone as i expected way more, but i just think its so ridiculous that still to this date our supporters haven't learnt from the past.

Was it a shocking performance - Yes

Do things need to change - Yes

We are only 1 game in to the season, so forget all the over dramatic crap and hold fire for at least another 4 weeks.

Clearly some people here don't learn from the 'eating our own' that has killed us in the past.

I'm a bright sider, but when your team put's on a performance that could be matched by a team of netballers then questions must be asked.

And where do you honestly see us after round 4? If we are lucky one win and 3 losses. But that one win will be a hard one the way we are playing.

Your an idiot if you're not worried after that performance. We were about 1-2 players max from full strength while Carlton had a number a players out, Fev was carrying an injury and they had 4 rookies. Melbourne would of beat us by 10 goals.

AKA "Reality".
In 'reality' we have a team definitely capable of making the top eight. Now whether they're just a bunch of soft c****, they're not playing for their coach, or more likely the game plan is a total shambles, well then that's a seperate issue that I'm alluding to.

Fact is, we are not skilled enough or disciplined enough to pull off a game plan that involves those exact things. It's amazing to see what happens when you just let players play their own game.

yeah i'm with you toppstar. while the it's not looking good at all at the moment, i think we should all wait and see over the next few weeks if we're more competitive and playing like we did at the end of last season. i think we'll come out firing against geelong.. even if we don't record a win. i'll be with the rest of you guys if this type of game becomes a trend though..

yes we are over reacting but we have every right to be mad

this

i'm waiting to see what happens in the next few rounds, but unless there is a huge reversal in form, wallace has to go...we've been patient and i do think he's built a list that can challenge for top four, but right now he doesn't seem like the guy to get us there

i want nothing less than:
- a competitive performance vs geelong
- a win over the dogs
- to smash melbourne

before i regain faith in wallace

yep, now my fit of rage has subsided, with an objective look , it's a LOSS..nothing more or less, the positive is we still have a strong side to select from to face up to the coming weeks ..there's every chance that Cartlon will be undefeated for quite some time, they were ultra impressive and we probably wont be the last mob they pants ..have been good since half a side took the game right up to geelong a few weeks back...we have a few worries but no more than any of the other sides challenging for a top 8 ...read that as 7-10 other teams ...I'm convinced we'll be back on track next week:thumbsu:

No its wasnt, it was pathetic and gives me no confidence in being successful this season because that was the Richmond we see every year, just bend right over and give up the fight.

I'm still not over it :thumbsd:

This is exactly what we should expect over the next 3 weeks. :thumbsu:

I feel like you're too heavily outnumbered here BJ, so I'll try to even it up a little.

As you said, it's one ****ing game. In the lead up to the season, there was an overwhelming air of confidence on this board, and rightly so given our improvement last year, and the fact that we have a good team. That hasn't changed. All bar about 3 or 4 players played a lot worse than what they are on Thursday night. How often is that going to happen? Very rarely. At our best, we are a ****ing good football team. Have a look at all those quarters/periods of domination last year. There were a number of whole quarters throughout the year last year, most towards the end, in which we absolutely ripped apart our competition. As our team matures, that's going to become more regular, and we are going to become a ****ing formidable team.

Thursday night was an abberation. Simple as that. And an abberation should not be used as the basis for a generalisation.

It is 1 game! The season is not over after 1 game. I guess Collingwood may as well pack it up after today as well then! The other matches so far this weekend have proven that any team can beat anyone else on their given day, the league is fairly even.

So as pathetic as Thursday night was, i would expect that there will be 1 if not more games later in the year which atm we probably wouldn't expect to win that we will.

If i'm not mistaken i'm sure everyone was asking for wallace's head after the adelaide game late last year after that performance. Next week we beat the eventual premiers hawthorn and everyone changes and says wallace's tactics in that game with our zoning was 1 of the major reasons we won.

Can't have it both ways my friends.

It's not an over re-action.

It's Groundhog day.

I dispute that fact of yours, and yes I know what you would say to that.

Those quarters of domination were against bottom 8 sides. Do that against top 8 sides and then we can claim to have a good team. Teams like Collingwood, Adelaide, North Melbourne and Sydney are far ahead of us, and it's these teams we need to be better than if we want to make the 8.

No matter what team..no matter when...All teams play a really crap game every now and again!

The Cats played a shocker last year against the PIES then fixed they're act up. Then did it again on the final day of September.

The Hawks on the other hand had they're shocker last year against us.....Funnily enough fixed it up and won the flag.

Hopefully our Shocker for the year was Thursday night........Lets hope for lots of wind and rain against the Cats in RD 2. Then make up for last years DRAW against the DOGS in RD 3.....And then we will let the boys from Melbourne know that there a long way off!

i wait with bated breath to see the reaction after the next 2 weeks.

it wasnt just a loss, it was an embarrassment against a side we're supposedly better than, a side playing 5 debutants
just a loss :o

all these sides had credits in the bank, ie we all knew they were good sides having an off day, what have we shown thus far that makes that performance just an "aberration"?

What would that be? All I can say is that I disagree.

They were generally against bottom 8 sides, correct. But we finished 16th the year before, so being able to do it to anyone was quite an improvement. One can only expect that such improvement would continue, with a large chunk of our team being quite young. I know you are hesitant in using any sort of positive term to describe football teams unless they are right up there with the best, so perhaps going by your definition of the word 'good' we aren't quite there yet. But we will be.
