Geeezzzussss...one Mal Thread at a time;)

umm timmy sat out of footy for a year and was actually looking at being drafted by stkilda initially but then sheeds got in his ear and the rest is history.
if Brisbane paid out his last of his contract then i think there would be trouble but they didnt and Michael has the right to change his mind, its not tampering why would michael want to leave brissy lions for essendon we finished 15th.

Yeah, sorry mate... just wanted to put out a genuine question rather than the mud slinging going on elsewhere.

Call it a 'Tim Watson' thread, if it works better for you... :)

as I said in the one on the main forum

"I cant access Eaglesflyinghigh right now but Mr Q or Mead posted the details on that issue earlier today.

From what I remember, it was a very different situation and the drafting rules were also different.

When the server wakes up, ill hunt it down"

even if there was no conspiracy between Michael and Essendon (and I believe there was) it still amounts to draft tampering

you cant ask to have your contract cancelled on the basis that you are retiring and then un-retire in time to start pre-season training!!

if Mal was fit to play this year (mentally and physically) then he was contracted to play for the Lions and should have, simple as that!

the contract was ceased, MOVE ON

Not Trolling but if Gumbleton for example was to retire at seasons end and went to West Coast to play next year would you be pissed?
Don't you think this makes a mockery of trade week?

There's a chance we'd be smart enough to get him to sign something when he retires, even if this fiasco didn't happen

Is nothing done in good faith anymore? They (brisbane) did the right thing by him and obviously could of got a reasonable pick in the draft.
Obviously this doesn't affect my club I'm just trying to get an honest opinion from a dons supporter.

Who cares much anyway? if it all goes thru and we get him, great.

If we can't have him,no big loss.

As long as the club has done nothing wrong, theres nothing to worry about is there?

Mal might have done the dirty on the Lions, he may not have even, we don't know what he's been thinking, we don't know how he was treated by the Lions, no one does, everybody's guessing the circumstances. Can understand why Lions gans would be upset, but they don't know everything either.

Sheedy was able to pick up a fine player, we're definately happy about that. Time for everyone to get a grip and simply move on. If Mal did the dodgy, bad luck Lions, he's a Bomber now, at least everyone will know how to treat these sitiuations from now on. No precedent has been set like everyone is saying, just simply add a clause into the contracts, which other clubs have been doing anyway. Port did it with Stuart Dew.

Whats to stop any retired player from changing their mind? I agree, its a horrible thing for Brisbane, but its Michael's decision as to when he should or shouldnt retire...simple as that. If they thought there was any shred of evidence that he wasnt 100% behind his decision, they shouldnt have terminated his contract.

Spot on. Something for clubs and the league to look at now and Id imagne the solution would be easy also.
