If He is out of contract and Brissie cant sign, we should hell for leather in acquiring his services.

He is with out doubt the leagues best FB atm. The guy is a monster and for my thinking is a very nimble version of Willo except he reads the play very well.

He is worth spending 400k per year plus

Thoughts..

Might be out of our price range unless he's happy with a performance based contract ;)

Definately worth a phone call to Brisbane though.

For sure, I would love him to be our full back but Brissie may not be likely to pass on their solid key positions, they are more likely to ship of midfielders as they are in abundance

Mal would be an awesome pick up but I strongly doubt we would get him.

Oh and I'll beat Geelong supporters to it by saying Mal's not without a doubt the best FB and that Matty Scarlett is better and was All-Australian etc etc ;)

Mal'd be awesome. Our two 'in an ideal world' targets this year would be him and Jacobs. I can't see us giving up what would be necessary to trade for either of those, though. If we get through the trade period and trade someone outside our 22 for Koops, then i'll be happy.

I'm also wondering what is the state of our salary cap. Was the protracted Wirrpunda/Matera negotiations because we were having trouble fitting them under the cap, or was Trev just being his usual tight self? Do we have anything left in the kitty?

I would love Mal however Essendon can keep Jacobs...I think Hunter in a year or two will not only be better then equal to him as a defender. In fact if I was Worsfold I would lock Hunter in a gym for the rest of hte off season and keep a loop of Archers (Glen) greatest hits on the TV monitor and make sure he takes note.

By the way I think that there is more chance of my dog having kittens then there is of Mal coming to WCE.

I wonder what kind of stunt we're gonna pull out come trade period.

Are we offering performance based contracts to save money to snare a big name player? As far as I aware, we have a pretty comfortable space for 1 or 2 max. star players.

anyone want to predict our piggy's surplus?

Half of Jako's & Banners contracts

+ McIntosh, Seirakowski and Wilsons pay. 250 - 300k

Matera,s would have been used to sign up Judd.

Cousins took a pay cut 50k

Embley and Fletchers contract would be back ended

Fido and Wirrundas contracts remain approximately the same except thy are based on Performance.

+3% of TPP 200k

Surely we would have around 650 - 700k to play with minimum

Except you have to allow for the fact that performance based contracts mean that a players salary will grow the more succesful we are. If guys like Matera & Wirra play exceptionally well next season, we could have a blow out.

If all players are on performance based contract then you will have winners and losers which should hopefully even out. That being said you can see why the Eagles would follow this line. A player who has the capacity to earn more for a good year would hopefully be more commited.

The club would surely allow for this under the salary cap and would look at 95-98% with all incentives paid and around 92% without. I don't think any club would be stupid enough to be at 98% and have an incentive based scheme in place.

Guess that comes down to how much incentive is weighted into each contract. Might see Fido run down back to chip the footy around with Wirra to boost his stats :D

That's a point - let's hope the performance is only linked to personal appeareances and team success, otherwise Phil might never give a handpass to his teammates..........
