I know I'm probably gonna cop a bit of flak for this , but sometimes malceski's kicking frustrates me. I think he has been terrific this year but I'd like to see him lower his eyes every once in a while. He turns the ball over quite often and kicks to the wrong options a lot of times. It seems as though he tries to kick the skin off the footy every time( yes nick we know u can kick the ball hard and far ) but he doesn't need to every time . It makes it harder for teammates to mark the ball and and generally control it. His rebounding is excellent i would just like to see him be a bit smarter with the footy and his disposal. Anyone else share similar thoughts ??

No one will ever go at 100% efficiency, but I would name Mal alongside McVeigh as the best kick in the team.
No doubt he has the best kick in the team, I just think sometimes he just tries too hard and makes it hard for team mates to take advantage . Every kick does not need to be a 50m spear. Mcveigh has a beautiful kick , he is an excellent kick to advantage puts just the right amount of heat on the ball when kicking to leading forwards

Sure. I think sometimes we have such high expectations with Malceski's kicking that we notice it more when he fails to deliver.

Pretty much this. Those two are the best kicks in the team at the moment.

If you need to look at anyone's kicking yesterday as a cause for concern - Tom Mitchell

Mitchell is not in the team for his kicking prowess, his handball skills are a weapon for us. There was a play yesterday where mal and mcveigh ( off the top of my head , I'm probably wrong) were working the ball around in the middle of the ground and ended up getting themselves in trouble and nearly caused a turn over. There was a couple of loose players around the congestion but giving them the ball would only cause the same problem. Seeing this , Mitchell as a 5th gamer decided to pick the ball up, take on a tackler and shoot a hand pass out through the attacking side of the contest and open the play up for a swans attack. He has excellent football iq and leadership not to mention he is probably the best hand passer in the team( a skill that goes unnoticed generally, but is vital in contests). He always seems to manage to get his hands free and find a player. Next captain of the mighty swans

Seems to me the players do everything they can to release mal and get him on the run with the ball in his hand to kick. He takes a lot of pressured kicks so is always going to turn some over or muck up some. But if its not him or mcveigh i bet we would see even more turnovers.

The guys knees are held in place by sticky tape dont forget.

Didn't we recruit Armstrong for his elite kicking skills?

It needs to be also noted yesterday that Melbourne made a real concerted effort to target their pressure on their defensive half forward strategy on Malceski. His work rate was fine but yes he was little off on his kicking yesterday but perhaps another player of the HBF could have taken some of the slack or we could have looked for other options when he was at the worst.

I've generally regarded Mal's field kicking as excellent over his career. But like many of the best players/players regarded by opposition clubs as play makers efficiency inevitably drops as more possessions are put under pressure. But I have noticed his laser like accurate passes have dropped away and he's doing a lot more long kicking to contested situations these days.

You're missing the point of my post.

I'm saying Tom's kicking was pretty bad yesterday while a number of people say Malceski and McVeigh have been bad

No doubt , some of Mitchell's kicks were bad at times, but he is not renowned for kicking efficiency like malceski and mcveigh are, so they can be held more accountable for their kicks than what Mitchell is because he's not expect to kick it 50m lace out. I'm not trying to knock mal at all I just sometimes he can be more effective if he lowered his eyes, again tho happy with his work this year and to be fair after what he's been through with his knees, wer lucky he can even kick at all
