What a night! I remember my Dad (sniff) being very excited that he was coming over. I remember being dismayed that the old blokes, especially A Jars was cut. 97 I moved to Darwin in yr 9, big footy town, but at my school I was one of the only Crows supporters; it was also the year the "That's great mate, but who are the Cows?" ad came out. Also my Crows turtleneck top wasn't quite Darwin weather.

He was a hardarse not afraid to do what he thought was right, even if it didn't make him popular at times.

To our club's credit, we responded to it and 2 flags was the fruit of that.

He tried it at St Kilda and they ran him out of the club.

Many in the hierarchy at St Kilda were comfortable in their position at the football club, mediocrity notwithstanding, and were not prepared to pay the price for success.

St Kilda: "We've got a boys club, we need to bring in an outsider to give a fresh opinion."
Blighty: "You're a boys club and you're happy with mediocrity."
St Kilda: "What do you know? You're an outsider."

How good would have Riewoldt been with Blight as his coach? Probably good for the rest of the league it didn't happen!

Could say the same about several of their kids recruited in the early 2000's. Instead, bar fluking a couple of GF's in 09/10, they've been mired in mediocrity for the majority of the past 15 years.

Was great what he said about the reach of the game. Boys and girls can play, there are teams in every state. Has got to the stage that every child in Australia can dream of being an AFL player

Fluking? They were definitely the best team in 2009, should have won the flag that year. 2010 Collingwood were better, but they still nearly snagged a flag. Very close in 2004 as well.

Geelong vs Saints in Round 13 of 2009 is still close to the best game of footy I've ever watched.

Well done Blighty. Crows supporters knew you were a legend 20 years ago. Don Pyke take note, hope you were listening to blight speak the other night and some of it rubs off.

And then crashed and burned pretty quickly.

Blight will forever be remembered as the man that lead the Crows to their 2 consecutive premierships. Remarkable record as a player and coach, the stuff of dreams where mere mortals can only dream. Can anyone remember 1998 Finals series where we lost the first major round, only to win the next 4 games to achieve the ultimate prize? Only a special team and a special coach could pull that off. Much appreciated Blighty!!

Not to mention going to Perth the week before finals
