i know that coaches are meant to be optimistic at the start of the year, but i almost choked on my lamb cutlet when i heard him on WLF the other week say that the team this year looks better (?) than the one that went to back-to-back grand final appearances a couple of years ago.

and then you go & lose to the crows.

so do you pie supporters agree with him, or like me, do you think he's been talking out of his ass for too long now?

it seems as though he's always got something to say & amazingly this week was the first time ive seen him actually front up on behalf of the club & acknowledge your cmplete inept performance after the adelaide loss - a surprising contrast to his comments only a couple of weeks ago.

time for him to go now that the excuses have run out?

What a coach says to his players and what he says to the punters and media are different and for good reason. I don't know what he has been saying to his players but I would hope it was pretty harsh. I really don't care what he says for mass consumption because it is all about spin.

The fact is there isn't much difference between those teams. Buckley is an obvious exception and Burns isn't himself right now. Then again, Burns is a deliberately slow started for preservation reasons and was in the GF years as well. What has gone backwards are the foot skills.

As for being time to go, that's a question for the end of the year. As far as I'm concerned no finals = cut off his contracted head, no ifs buts or maybes. There is no point in imploding now and in any case there isn't a viable alternative.

yeh, i read a bit about the foot skills too.

its interesting, i cant believe how positive he was being, & he always is a bit of a cocky kind of character & then we see what happened on sunday.

i think if it looks as though the finals are out of reach, you should cut him loose before the end of the year & give a bloke a few weeks to see how he goes - i suppose im kinda intimating that id like to see what gotch is about - is he any good? i saw a bit of him when he played for the PAFC when i was younger.

You can't make chicken salad out of chicken feathers. When we are full strength then we'll string some wins together. Buckley, Fraser, Didak and Richards will make a difference. We can't cover these injured players like some other sides can. Coach certainly isn't the problem.

i dont think we can cut him lose as im sure he has 2 more years of a contract to go and this would cost in the order of 1.6 m ill to pay him out. so hell stay.

And i wouldnt want the next coach to have had any involvement with the malthouse style of play or recruiting, clean them all out i say.

We'll have to start afresh i think with new blood, maybe shaun rehn as a coach?

I think it's hard to gauge, because he might think the 2005 team might have the potential to go one better. In 2002, we had a lot of experienced players that we knew could do their job, but we also knew they wouldn't imrpove much. They would just produce at a constant level.

Maybe he thinks the youngsters and mid-tier players can kick on and become a really talented unit and play together for the next 5-6 years.
