This year he seems to have really hit the nail on the head with the balance between ability and TEAMWORK. On paper, his team is not the best, but like the two years they played in a GF, they played WELL IN ADVANCE of their capabilities. They are doing the same this year and he has been able to blood some good kids (rookies and 1st year players) who have really shone.

Why cant we get the same mix with our playing group and why does it seem like we "baby" our players and dont just hit them with the "get out there and get into it"....?

Sheeds USED to be a master at this (Fletch, Watson etc), but now others are showing him up.

Thoughts?

I think it's of Collingwood falling low for a few years, influxing the team with high draft picks inlcuding prority picks in the first round, choosing the right kids Pendlebury, Rusling, Thomas, getting rid of Tarrant, these kids coming on and getting a lift out of the more senior blokes.

They are a good running side but if they lose Rocca or Fraser they will be in trouble. Don't think they can go all the way in the finals but are on their way. They are ahead of us. Mick is a more structured coach too.

We had a 10th and 15th. Not really bottoming out for picks. I believe we were alot better than the ladder position we had in '05.

I think we've taken the right attitude atm. We're rebuilding without going down the ladder. Last year was the last year where we got rid of a lot of dead wood off the list and now the only guys not getting a game are 18 - 21 year olds who are just viewed as having potential.

Finishing 15 is bottoming out. How else would've you got Thomas & Pendlebury?

Give credit where it is due...Collingwood have been excellent this year. I am not convinced that they have a great list and I think Mick M has achieved the maximum out of them over the past two years.

I like our future better than theirs as I believe we have our KPP sorted for the next 6-8 years. Midfielders are easier to find and develop.

It's the best way to do it, 2 years in a row a lot of your younger players will get finals experience, the Pies are going about it the right way and will be better off for it.

Sure it happened once but it can happen to most teams, to me bottoming out is being crap for a few years and re-building with 4-5 top picks at least, the Pies have a good mix and haven't relied to heavily on top picks

I don't think our mix is too bad. I reckon its a fair possibility, and would love to see it, that both teams could be close to a Grand Final apearance over the next 3 years.

So far, Stants has missed about a handful of games since debuting, and he's only 21 (just waiting for some clever dick to look thisup and call me out...). Winders has taken his spot and is flying along
Slatts, Nash and Monfries have all been in and out, but have made good contributions, and they're all quite young
Ryder's going great guns in just his second year
Houli's done a bit, Jetta played one good game on debut, CJ's done a few things right, Andy Lee to a lesser extent, and then there's Alwyn, and the Lovetts coming from left field straight into the team
So that's 13 players (8 of them quick running players too - old and slow!) all quite young, and all (or nearly) have come in since 2004.
We're rebuilding quite nicely if I'm not mistaken, with Gumbie and Hislop in the wings just biding their time. Next year will see one or two more out of JJ, MJ, Heff and Pev cut, and more kids will come in again. Future's not too bad!

Don't forget the wildcard... Reimers!
