Marcus Rose 'Retires'

Im flabbergasted at those who are standing up for Rose in here.

Look at the result - 3 days of horrible press for the Club, forced to resign from the Club and then forced to stand down from the ticket that he was a leading member of. If that doesnt confirm for you that he stuffed up, then I dont know what planet you are on.

Talk about what he gave the club by all means - 5 years of service - but the guy mishandled the situation completely.

Not saying I'm right but consider if Rose had decided that he was happy to help CFC by putting energy into the development but had had a gutful of being the Finance D "money man' on the CFC board.

How would the friendly discussion with Smorgy go?

S: You can't abandon ship now! It will look like there is something smelly and all Unity cred, including my Presidency, will fall!
R: I just can't jeopardise my own business interests by being the scapegoat for CFC problems... happy to help love CFC but can't run a business, deal with footy club stuff and do the development project and get shot and litgated against if it folds.
S: Shyte what do we do? Panic! Panic!
R: How about I have a presser and say something really stupid but true that will make it seem justified in me "falling on sword " and resigning?
S: Like what?
R: Just the truth that we are in deep doo doo and there is extreme pressure from AFL if we don't get members to rally behind you!
S: OK.. if you must
R: yep reporter will be here in 30 minutes!

He didn't. He said we had improved financially but our future was not guaranteed using traditional revenue streams, thus running the risk of going the way of the Fitzroy dodo.

He was always dredging up some late votes for the stage 2 development. Maybe they have seen a voting trend already and Rose was in big trouble.

Then why was he sacked at 11 am ??

And we were $12M in debt a few years ago.
Give it a couple of years and we will almost be debt free IMHO.

Once we start improving on-field, our off-field woes simply will NOT be there.

What will on-field performance bring us? Members? Sponsors? Gate-receipts?

Last year Hawthorn has less members than us.
Last year Hawthorn had smaller crowds to their home games.
Last year Hawthorn were coming off finishing 15th, only one place above us.

Yet their revenue for the year was around $26m. Ours was $19m - $20m (depending on how you count the social club).

We're not even making money out of the traditional sources. All increased members, crowds, sponsors will do is allow us to get slightly ahead of the trailing pack. We might get our heads above water, but we need to be competing with the best.

I'm hoping like hell we end up with a board capable of generating sufficient revenue, but anyone who believes that just better on-field performance is going to make this club one of the strongest again is kidding themselves. Hell, without strong leadership, good on-field performances will only just keep the club alive until the next down turn, and then we're in real trouble.

This club can be turned around with forward thinking creative people on the board.

Currently there is alot of deadwood... and it needs to go.

Anymore news THS?
Anything that may be happening behind the scenes that we don't know about?
