I think he's one of the most reliable news breakers, but specifically on St Kilda stuff, I'm not sure he has any more intel than the others?
It's just he has a shocking record with Essendon haha

Marcus is the consummate pro. Excellent trainer and impeccable prepper. I prefer him to stay.

A super star he ain't. Not sure what his ceiling is, but right now he's more Geary than Lenny.

Statistically he's ahead of Lenny at 22 years old. A home grown kid who is improving steadily every year and can play inside mid, wing or tag effectively is not a player we should be letting go over an extra 100k per season. Especially while we're throwing big money at the likes of Aleer and Ryan, who may not even be in the best 23.

What we are paying other players is irrelevant. He will be paid his worth.

I don't think it's irrelevant at all. The salary cap is a finite resource and you have to allocate it appropriately. If we were flush with stars who deserved big contracts then you could understand not matching the highest bidder with Windy. When we're throwing big money at fringe players from other clubs, then lowballing Windhager is ridiculous.

We low-balled him, did we? Of course it was reported by some media flog so it must be true. Said it before, just because our starting offer was below his expectations, it doesn't mean he was low-balled.

Throwing big money at fringe players is just emotive hyperbole.

It takes big $$$ to attract star players to our club and frankly, we have no idea what the numbers are. I;m guessing theclub sees something in these "fringe" players that you refer to. I'll give you Leek, but the others aren't exactly "fring" and fill vital gaps in our list. We need a senior replacement for Battle. Higgo needs help up forward. TDK will be an A grade ruck who can actually tap. Doug is injury prone, hence Aleer.

Reporters always use words like "up $700k per season". But they never mention the conditions, do they? It could easily be a base salary plus games played, plus finish in the B&F plus winning a Brownlow.

TDK started at $1.7 and peaked at $1.9m. Aleer was reported at $750k and is now around $600k.

Windy will get his due. If he thinks he's worth more than it's his choice to leave. He's tracking well for his age and will likely improve. But he isn't in the same postcode as Nas or Pou in terms of game breaking star power. Even Max Hall has passed him in that area.

We've got a ruck whose best B&F finish is 7th, a 29 year old small forward whose best goal tally for the year is 30 (which was back in 2019), a VFL defender and a handy but injury prone third tall.

I don't think you can make a case that any of them are star players. Two are quite good, one is okay and the other is borderline okay/VFL quality.

We are clearly holding out hope that TDK's best footy (which he has only shown in glimpses) will become his usual standard. Maybe rumoured changes to ruck rules could be help him as well. But we're rolling the dice on potential, not recruiting a proven star.

Saints offered him a contract that was both significantly less than his expectations and market rate in terms of both years and dollars, which was unrealistic to expect him to accept. That’s the definition of lowballing someone.

Such a horrific lowball.

That he was adamant he wanted to stay and seems to be the final outcome now aswell.

I’d say it’s more a negotiation that wasn’t helped with North and Melbourne offering 800/5 year deals.

Yes, it’s the teams that offered him his worth that were the problem and why we’re a month post-season with him still unsigned. Of course.

😂

So can Bont, Richards, Darcy etc get what “they are worth” on the market or have they signed in the middle of that to remain at the Dogs?

And nothing to worry about with Windhager. Look forward to seeing you on another stkilda related thread

Saints have a lot of players weighing up moves, don’t hang around these boards 24/7 if you’re sensitive about it.
