Looks like a great team to me, with Watson as supersub (swapping with Hogg, assuming Warne doesn't play).Sylvia Saint said:Gilchrist

There should be room for both Jaques & Cosgrove in the WC squad. Jaques should come in for Katich, & Cosgrove IMO should be currently picked as a spare batsman to the current line-up, as Martyn deserves to keep his place.

Maybe get a couple of better arguments mate, with your Jaques>Hussey>>>Cosgrave post it has no merit considering you probably haven't seen Cosgrave play. Maybe watch a couple of his games and then ytou'll see why he should be in serious consideration for the top level.mcphee_is_a_gun said:No but the way you carry on about Cosgrove i rekon you are.
Age shouldnt be in consideration when picking the team, form should why does it matter how old the player is? Whover is in the best form should get the spot. I apoligise for my earlier post it was pretty poor. Oh and i have seen Cosgrove play and i think he'll be a good player for Australia but at the moment i believe there are players in front of him although i do think he hits the ball in the air to much.Armageddon said:Maybe get a couple of better arguments mate, with your Jaques>Hussey>>>Cosgrave post it has no merit considering you probably haven't seen Cosgrave play. He is 5 years younger than Jaques and 7 years younger than David Hussey and he is IMO better than Hussey (this year he has been) and just behind Jaques in ODD and on par in the pura cup. He should be next line after Jaques after this year's magnificent form and if the selectors stick to their "youth policy," he will be there pretty soon, maybe even the one dayers in South Africa? He may get a go there.
fair enough, but if you look at the 4 day comp you will see Mark Cosgrave is averagine 82 and David Hussey is averaging a lowly 28 with JAques averaging 56.mcphee_is_a_gun said:Age shouldnt be in consideration when picking the team, form should why does it matter how old the player is? South Australians need to calm down.

One Day is different to 4 day the players should only be judged on that purticular form as it is a completely different type of game.Armageddon said:fair enough, but if you look at the 4 day comp you will see Mark Cosgrave is averagine 82 and David Hussey is averaging a lowly 28 with JAques averaging 56.
Then you have the One dayers and Jaques is 109 with Cossie and Hussey both in the 90's so the averages there show Jaques first with Cossie and Huss pretty close. I expect all 3 to feature in the ODI team with Jaques already with a stunning debut.
Interesting reading this thread.
Not really Cosgrove can take over from another player when his game is fully developed and ready for International cricket in Australia we are lucky enough to have good depth in our batting which allows us to hold back playerrs until the peak of there careers.RoosterLad said:To a degree you do need to look at age, you need to look to the future. Cosgrove is a possible 10 year play for Australia. He does hit the ball in the air but it tends to go flying over the boundary so it doesn't really matter.
If we wait too long with players, they can become de moralized and fall out of form and favour, if another player steps up and they decide the spot is open and give it to the other guy. In saying this, you can look at the Mike Hussey's and Brad Hodge's of the world.mcphee_is_a_gun said:Not really Cosgrove can take over from another player when his game is fully developed and ready for International cricket in Australia we are lucky enough to have good depth in our batting which allows us to hold back playerrs until the peak of there careers.
RoosterLad said:How many 100s has White made this year? Plus his bowling is pure faeces, we saw that in NZ.
Thanks.

Which is pretty much my point, them being not in the team has only made them hungrier to succeed when they finnally got a go for Australia and look how that has worked.Armageddon said:If we wait too long with players, they can become de moralized and fall out of form and favour, if another player steps up and they decide the spot is open and give it to the other guy.
