Ah well, looks like you'll just have to settle with Koops, who according to jod, 'wouldn't get a game for you at all.' (What's new)

Better luck next time. :D :)

Oh he would get a game if we had an injury crisis, but as far as getting anywhere near our best 22. Not a chance.

thats why the lead up to trade week is so important, it gives us the chance to make up wild rumours and give us optimism.

Perhaps your recruiting duds should have considered him in 2000 instead of that soft **** injury case McDougall.

Recruiting McDougal wasn't a mistake at all. Trading away pick 20 for Taylor and Collica was the mistake. We could have taken Coughlan then :( Damn Ken Judge to hell.

You blokes aren't having much luck are you?

First, your hopes are ruined when you realise Polak is still contracted with Freo and going nowhere, then Bartel re-signs with Geelong, and now Coughlan says this: 'Richmond is my home,' and this: 'absolutely' (when asked whether he saw his long term playing future at Richmond).

Coughlan wanting to stay at Punt Road is equally (if not more) depressing for us :)

Don't blame Ken Judge Sera, Woodhouse and Co., went overboard re McDougall whose only claim to fame was that he was playing well in the Alcock Cup while Coughlan was a stand out at Perth against stronger opposition. They even rated McDougall in front of Kerr when he was clearly the best player in the Alcock Cup that year.
Whilst McDougall might turn out ok there were times, even earlier this year, when he was a chance to get gassed.

Yeah whatever. Did you even watch the Eagles this year? McDougall had huge wraps on him and still does. Go watch this years Melbourne game again. Coughlan wasn't even a WA representative at u18 level. According to Weaver, Richmond drafted him a bit early. I'm not unhappy with Woodhouse at all.

Bit harsh. McDougall, like many young taller players is still growing and much of his injury problems can be put down to that.

Not sure how the term "soft****" applies - If you were referring to him going down in the last derby (I think) it was because he had his jaw broken - hardly soft.

Doogs is a talent, no question. Confident he'll prove his worth in the next few seasons

Coughlan has suffered from OP in the past.
Missed majority of his 1st season with Richmond because of it.
Might have made an impact earlier if not for it.

McDOugalls only claim to fame was Alcock Cup? riiiiiiight.. He played in the Under 18 carnival... was named an All Australian... represented Australia in the Under 18's.... where as a 190cm+ player against Ireland scored the record for most goals/points scored in an International... in a game generally not suited to big men. I'd say he had slightly more of a "claim to fame" than Coughlan playing for one of the worst teams in the history of the WAFL.

...and was simultaneously knocked unconscious but came back on the ground later in the game.......yeah....a real softy...that happens on the internet all the time.....

For the benefit of you less informed punters particularly Sera and Chris_Judd, Coughlan did play U18's in 2000 and McDougall never played U18's at all.

As for Weaver's opinion re Richmond taking Coughlan too early I guess apart from him having egg on his face it's just another example of him not having a clue particularly when it comes to WA kids. Isn't he the goose that inferred that Farren Ray is a soft and unaccountable outside player with pace?? and even rated Moody ahead of him, not to mention stating "The recruting of Coughlan is a master-stroke. A very good player who was not a WA rep is great recruting."

Whilst some may have had wraps on McDougall and none more so than Woodhouse and Co., it was a fairly widely held view even amongst opposition Alcock Cup players that he was a soft target.
Don't get too carried away with what little he has done thus far and I'd say he's odds on to get injured during the pre season.

I don't know what axe you have to grind but you obviously have some kind of vendetta against our recruiting staff. You have already made several unsubstantiated allegations about draft tampering and Callum Burges. McDougall was meant to play in the u18 carnival but didn't because he was injured. We took McDougall and Kerr before Coughlan. McDougall was touted as the #1 pick early in 2000. Kerr is a star already. I'm quite happy with that. You can't draft all small players. Who did the Dockers take? with their first two picks in 2000? Haha, if we take locals you hassle us for taking the wrong ones and if we recruit Victorians then Ripper or Freo Hitman try to rip us for not having tunnel vision and staying local...

I don't have any axe to grind nor do I have a vendetta against your recruiting staff. I simply said that perhaps they should have considered Coughlan before McDougall and they didn't because they over rated McDougall and under rated Coughlan.
Coughlan was a better player then, he is now and will be in the future and the WCE recruiting staff got it wrong and thats a fact.
I dont see what all that has got to do with the Dockers.

"McDougall was touted as the #1 pick early in 2000."

By who???

bit premature to say who will be the better player dont u think? coughlan won b&f but didnt really have a helluva lot of competiton. we picked up kerr and mcdougall b4 coughlan, dont think too many eagles supporters would be real dissappointed with kerr, and mcdougall is looking most likely our answer at ff/chf...if he works out will be worth more to our side than another midfielder(no matter the quality) evr will be.

to me he looks all quality...dont know about 'soft' either (to the smartass who posted that)...playing on with a broken jaw is pretty ballsy in my book.

there is nothing softer than someone using the excuse 'I had to get my appendix removed', surely you could play through that.

They were his only two injuries this year weren't they?

There was a full page spread in the paper [slimes I think] about McDougall after the international rules series. Several of the recruiters said he was the early choice for #1 pick. One of them was Gerard Neesham who gave his usual tirade about the draft age and said it was morally wrong that a highschool kid would be put under such pressure :p

The Saints were very seriously considering him as their #2 pick - and rightfully so because McDougall did pretty well Koschitzke when they played earlier in the year.

You had yours out ?

I missed a chunk of sport in high school from a nasty appendix op (twisted behind my intextine apparantly).

It bloody hurts, and leaves you very tender - wise not to do anything high impact for a month or two, more if its a nasty case.

I don't recall that one but you're probably right, I know there was a way over the top story by Hagdorn in the same rag on young Polak that drew a lot of flak.
