Criticism last year was very fair. Lecca was incredibly selfish, always has been, but last year took the cake. Would often go for goal and miss, couldn't kick beyond 40 metres, did not run both ways. Fair enough of he was injured but he was not AFL standard at all last season.

This year however he seems like he is back to his best and I believe it's the youth that has reinvigorated his otherwise dwindling career. If he can continue his form I don't see why he can't play for another season or two.

He has selfish moments but a lot of that is simply overplayed by people on here who seem to think someone is always open.

I could go through the season and count times when Ryan is selfish, but I wouldn't and nobody else would take notice. People on here act like missing a goal is selfish, it's not, it's literally his job to have a ping at goals in some pretty hard situations.

I have seen some absolutely ridiculous calls in gameday threads of people using the word selfish without any real understanding of what they're talking about.

When another player is in a better position and they are open, you are always better off dishing it to that player. Just because you are a forward does not mean you should always have a ping. Last year lecras was heavily susceptible to this and would miss.

GameDay threads are based off pure emotion. You can't take what people say on there seriously until they bring up the same point with the same level of emotion into a different thread a few hours after a game has finished.

Don't mean to be negative because i think Lecras has been a great servant of the club over the years, but he had a year to forget last year. He has certainly reversed time however and is looking in career best form. Let's hope it continues .

Haven’t enjoyed the roasting he’s copped over the last couple of years but I must admit I put a line through him at the end of 2017. The start to the year has been encouraging.

What was never in doubt though was his class and the amount of awesome footy he has played for the club. He’s been a great player for the Eagles and a walk up start for our all time best 22.

I was there too, my first interstate eagles game. Watching Essendon supporters throwing insults at their own players also made the night memorable.

From memory didn't Lecca kick more goals than the whole of the Essendon team that game?

Lecca has always been one of my favourites - which is why I said at the beginning of the season when a lot were writing him off that I would give him up to 6 games to prove himself as blind Freddy could see last year that his body wasn't right!

Seems like a whole new, or rather, old player this year. Clearly the injury was really bothering him last year. Glad I was wrong about him.

He was gone last year for all money. One the one hand, I'm impressed he's come back, on the other he must have been seriously impeded by his hip last year and probably shouldn't have played as much.

I agree with that, but Rioli and Venables were injured and Ryan wasn't on the list, Cripps was already in the team and there wasn't really anyone pushing him. Karpany probably the most suited to the role but seems to be lacking a bit.
