Working with the AFL interactive stuff atm and Nicholson (sp?) was in today for 2 hours. Asked him about Neeld, he described him as a 'fitness nazi', and said that 'the blokes that slack off are going to have to lift their game or they will be out'. He also mentioned that when Neeld arrived the first thing he did was rip up all the players current off-season fitness plans, and replace them with new ones, the difference between the two was massive apparently. :thumbsu:

Good to hear! Cheers brah :thumbsu:

A fitness nazi is long overdue. Finally someone will give the MFC the kick up the ass it so badly needs :thumbsu:

what i think of some of our players mentioned so far..

grimes- best down back as the quater back and floating marks across half back looks very composed.

davey- back to the small forward roll (never understood why they tried to make him something his not)

tapscott- forward... i remember someone saying ''if this kid has the ball from 60 its a goal''

bate- reminds me alot of cameron ling...

spencer- give him some more time a year out might get some size

blease- running back swapping on the ball

jurrah- let him do what he wants!

bennel- soft, i dont no about him...

morton- drafted as a elite kick, hoping neeld helps this kid...

mcdonals- showed his going to be a player

maric- shows glimpses... not sure on him high draft pick maybe got it wrong?

my team-

bb- blease frawley garland

hb- mcdonald rivers grimes

c- morton moloney gysberts

hf- howe watts sylvia

ff- green martin davey

rucks- jamar trengove mckenzie

inter- bail petterd jones (bate/maric)

in saying what i said before i think we should look to the draft for our problems as kpf goes as we are still a while off grand final status.
draft tall with pick 12

No Tapscott? really?

Ahmed Saad anyone? He won the sprint test at the Combine yesterday, good be a good option as a small forward - that's where he's been playing for the Bullants. No idea where in the draft he might go but I reckon he looks a better option than what we have already. He's about 23.

Saw this kid a few years ago when he played for Roxy Park and the kid can play. Fast, skillfull left and right foot kick, good overhead mark for a small midfielder but a standout was his continues pressure on the player with the ball.Loves to tackle and harrass.Lovesto kick goals And has a massive engine. I think he's worth a crack.
If we dont land him i hope some other club will. Good luck to the kid

We need a key forward. Whether that's throwing the kitchen sink at Dawes or Jesse White or getting a mature age. Martin can play but if he spent all year at FF, he'd barely kick 30. Would we consider Fev? The other one we need is another mid sized back. I'd love us to go hard at Jordan Russell. A backline of;
Blease/Tappy Frawley Garland
Grimes Rivers Russell
That would make my dick throw up

I think the problem with everyones suggestions is he is talking 'gaps' not position on the field. So he might have a list something like this:

1 x Gorilla KPD- Frawley
1 x Tall Backman- Rivers
1 x Tall backmen/Can play on smalls- Garland
1 x Small negating backman- Batram
1 x Fast HBF- Blease
1 x Small Rebounding HBF/Good marking- Grimes
2 x Fast explosive wingers- ?????
1 x Ruckman- Jamar
2 x Inside mids/Hard clearance players- Moloney & Trengove
1 x Outside onballers/Great endurance- ????
1 x Gorilla FF- ????
1 x Agile Tall Forward- Watts
1 x Third Tall/Good mobility- Jurrah
1 x Med HFF/Good mark/Can go onball- Sylvia
1 x Fast roving FP- Davey
1 x X Factor Forward/Plays tall & small- Petterd
Interchange
1 x Big swingman/Plays Forward,Ruck,Back- Martin
2 x Hard utilities- Jones & Tapscott
1 x Extra onballer- Gysberts

So using this list as an example we probably need 4 more players.
1 x Outside mid
2 x Explosive wingers
1 x Gorilla FF

Players like Green, Morton, McKenzie, Howe, Bail & MacDonald could knock off some other players to get a spot in the team. I spent most time on defining the roles rather than who can play the roles

This is what I read when he said that he had a plan on how football should be played and put players name next to the role they can play, not the position they can play.

I think Sivart hit the nail on the head, but I reckon there's definately a few ???s about small, quick crumbing forward.

Agree totally, like I said it was a bit rushed.
FWIW I would start Davey as a small forward, IMO he plays his best football there

Spencer- give him some more time a year out might get some size

He was taken in 2008 rookie draft he is 105 kg and 203 cm how much bigger do you want him, fact is he has struggled to shown any signs of being a half decent player at AFL level, the sub rule only diminishes his chanes off getting a game. Delist! Not to mention Martin and Gawn have surpassed him.

We did, we took lucas cook last year he needs some time to develop (as frustrating as that is) unless there is a ready made forward (Patton seems the only one in this draft that is ready made and he will go No. 1). If we pick another tall under-developed forward who will be 12 months behind cook. Whereas we could try and fix another big issue of ours and draft a genuine small forward with elite pace who can apply some forward defensive pressure.

This. Despite the nickname Spencil, the man is a beast! If only we could combine his size with Morton's talent, we would have a player.
Alas that Spencer has no discernible skill with a football.

I had the privilege of watching Jake this season before he went down, and he looked good to me, is LARGE, diffinately got bigger over summer, and would have been straight in if he didnt injure himself on the same weekend as Jamar... majorly unlucky. especially as Martin was dropped that week also....

Anyway was taking marks ect, involved in play, has some way to go, but is only 22, Jamar didnt come on until 24

I know what we did last year and took cook... What if his a dud and doesn't make it then what?
Draft another kpp can never have to many!

What people need to remember with Cook is....

He was chosen as the AA U18 CHF; ahead of guys like Darling, Lynch and Day (who was on the bench).

All of this as an 81kg prospect; he has talent and we'll have to back the club to develop him.

Yeah you can - didn't we draft 3-4 KPP's last year? (Cook, Howe, Davis, McDonald). Yes we need a monster forward but I reckon we should be looking to beef up our midfield stocks first we need some polish and explosive pace in there to complement the grunt of Moloney, Sylvia, Trengove. Another hard at it player wouldn't hurt either.

And as TPM said we have two under 18 AA forwards in Cook & Watts. Yes they're young and skinny but let them develop and hopefully at least one of them will be able to stay up forward as a big target alongside a resting Martin, Jamar or Gawn.

You have a point with the players you mentioned but cook is the only one out of the group that looks like the monster forward.. I may be wrong..

Yes! We need more run through the middle of the ground. Our backline holds together ok and our forwards make the most of limited opportunity. It's our midfield where we are deficient right now. We need pace and some class asap through the centre.

O'Meara would be nice, but I feel is out of reach. GWS is in the box seat and unless we are willing to possibly part with both our comp picks, then I'd say we are best to concentrate on getting mids this draft. We get Viney next year, and as good as he is, he is more of a bullocking player. We could do with a couple of Nick Dal Santo types. Smart ball users who can rack up possessions.

Give us a couple of years and our 'gorilla' type forward will either come from within(Fitzpatrick/T.McDonald/Martin) or once we are playing finals we can trade for the right type. But unless there is a standout KPF in the draft, lets get some mids into our club(especially with $cully now gone).

I don't know squat about any of these guys and obviously it is highly speculative but the write-ups in Knightmare's phantom draft on the Drafts Board sound like a couple of guys we could do with particularly Ross;

#12 Melbourne- Toby Greene (VIC - Mid)
Height: 180cm, Weight: 78kg, DOB: 15/09/1993
Recruited from: Oakleigh Chargers
Style: Matthew Boyd
Player comparison:
Range: 5-20
Profile: Like Tyson, Green has really improved his draft stocks with a very strong champs with some big games and has continued that form on nicely. Big time ball magnet. Wins allot of clearances and wins his fair share of contested ball. Shows strong attack on the ball. Particularly good by hand and makes good decisions more often than not. Not a super high level athlete but has a solid endurance base and very good agility.

#36 Melbourne – Sebastian Ross (VIC – Mid/Fwd)
Height: 187cm, Weight: 82kg, DOB: 07/05/1993
Recruited from: North Ballarat Rebels
Style: Nick Dal Santo
Player comparison:
Range: 20-50
Profile: Medium midfielder/forward who feels really draftable. Really lively. Has a high work rate. Footskills are the standout feature of his game. Just one of those perfect left footers. Under pressure has no difficulty executing. Really like his tackling pressure and for someone with his footskills it’s a rare combination to have. Can play some midfield either inside or outside comfortably. But really like what i’ve seen of him as a forward most. Hard worker and has been a real improver over the past year.

This. Unless there is a standout KPP who is ready to go like Patton, Hurley, Darling etc available for us (which is extremely long odds) I reckon we focus on the midfield/flanker types to bulk up our rotations through the middle. If none of our current crop can fit the bill in 2-3 years time then we can try and trade into one or go for a mature age player.

Also reading Quale's article yesterday I am warming to picking up Saad and dropping Wonna to the rookie list however going by her article it is looking unlikely he will be avilable for us to pick up unless we can do a trade with GWS similar to what the Pies did with Krakouer last year and Marty Clarke this year.

when Davey eats a bag of cement and hardens the **** up we have our crumber.

But then again he was definitely slower this season then previous ones
