Re: Mark Nickoski

Second that

Hurn will beat a tag, The Defence lead by Glass started to go out of there way to get the ball in Hurns hands, especially towards the end of the season.

And teams dont really tag forwards of defenders much, Wirra was only ever tagged a couple of times a season and you'd of thought that after Tarrent towed Lecras up most opponents would put their FB on him, and going back further with Dustin Fletcher on Matera

Yes they do... Heath Shaw, Rhyce Shaw, Luke Hodge come to mind. Id tag him if I was playing us..

Re: Mark Nickoski

Whether Nicoski gets a contract depends what happens with the other trades. We need to free up 5 or 6 spots on the list. Seaby and Hunter are two, the rest (I think) probably have to come from Staker, Hansen, Stenglien, Bones, Nico, Schofield, Spangher.

So if we manage to trade/delist/payout the first first three or four of those Nico stays. That would be the ideal outcome IMO, I don't think he's best 22 but he's not a bad backup if we're short a small defender/winger so it would be good to him keep on a 1 yr deal.

Re: Mark Nickoski

Niko represents the previous era of Eagles. I'm not sure he is still relevant. His role in defence has been filled by Hurn who is a better kick and stronger body. As for further up the ground, if Staker doesn't cut it, neither does Niko.

If we are looking for a small type forward closer to goal (not that Niko is short but small in the sense he wouldn't be key position) we look at someone younger. 7th pick should provide that.

Nicoski is rubbish.

His awareness and decision making is horrible and we don't need somebody hitting the panic button off the half back flank, he causes too many turnovers that result in goals.

Too many players in front of him already and that's not including Smith and JoJo who will be by next years end.

Not a required player for mine.

Re: Mark Nickoski

Compare him to an up and comer who plays a fairly similar rebound from defence/wing role, like scooter :D

Games KicAvg HanAvg DisAvg MarAvg TacAvg Goals AvgRat
Nico 13 8.6 6.2 14.8 2.6 1.6 0 49.3
Scooter 14 6.9 7.9 14.8 3.3 2.8 2 57.2

Played similar amount of games this year and Nicoski hasnt been able to make anywhere near the impact of a 23 game player in Scott Selwood.

In my opinion its time to move him on, who knows we could get something for him while he's still relatively young.

Scooter spent significant time in the middle, Nicoski played almost wholly in the backline. It is hardly comparable. At least not with simple stats.

Especially when they end up averaging the exact same number of disposals

friday drinks start early for you mate??

I'm in the US now, so that was at midnight, am just off to bed now. So, yes, a few drinks had been had. Though more like Thursday drinks though.

I think Nicoski's disposal isn't half as bad as people make it out to be. I know it is not the best measure, but his DE this year has been 78%. Not horrible. Most of his kicks hit the target. And he generally does kick, which typically has a lower effectiveness than handballing.

What happens with Nico is that he will pull an absolute shocker after generally being good with his disposal and/or he will try and charge down the middle and get caught HTB, those sorts of things stick in your mind. Generally there all under pressure as he is trying to create something, give him easy targets from HB to kick too like a charging CHF or a HF line and he will become very dangerous. Hence I think as the midfield gets better he will become a better player and quite damaging.

He can lock down his medium/small forwards and that should also count for something considering he is a defender.

Good point. One of those players that would be better in a better team.

It appears we had a lot of them during 05/06.

Don't need front runners that only play well when the team is playing well. You need players that can stand on their own two feet without being carried, because when the chips are down these are the players that create weak links that inevitably lead to losses.
