Exactly. Which is why I'm disappointed with Eade saying today that we probably won't do that much for the rest of the week.

Have a good look at our list. There's players there who aren't getting opportunities or are not good enough, so move them on and get the best deals for them.

Come on Dogs, we've got Barry and Lake, but we can't afford to rest on our laurels. Look at the Cats and the Saints, they're still trying to improve their lists through the trade period.

St Kilda have many recyled's on their list but didn't win the premiership. Interestingly the recycled's were the main ones who let them down on grand final day. St kilda also had the advantage of having the first two picks in a draft when the two best KPF's were available. Without Riewoldt, they would be nowhere near it.


The main clubs that have swapped draft picks for recyled players are Richmond and Fremantle and we all know how they have gone.

I was just giving a basic snapshot of the drafting/trading philosophies of the top clubs.

In general terms, I am a drafting rather than a trading type of guy. On occassions I like to trade for a good player, but prefer that we do our bread and butter recruiting through the draft. That's just my personal preference.

IMO the clubs that have made a habit of giving up draft picks for recycled players,such as Freo and Richmond are perennial cellar dwellars.

But like anything, there is no hard and fast rule. If a good trade came up, I would look at it(ie Hall). But I would rather keep our picks than trade for a player that wouldn't get into our best 22.

Yep, but both came to Geelong when they were 20 years of age.So they were very young with not many games behind them.

Mooney came only as a result of their captain Leigh Colbert walking out on them and was part of the package to get Colbert to North.

He's not the player he was for us in patches across 05-06, and he's no spring chicken either really.

He might do better in a better side but I think the game may have just passed him by during the time he missed with injury. His confidence is low and his decision making of late has been real liability across half back.

Some have you have ear marked him in a 'quarter back' role, but really Hurn went past him (easily) in this role at West Coast and Nico was left kinda floating between half back and wing, having little impact with the exception of his turn overs (later in the season as he struggled with form and injury, Sam Butler took his spot down back). His defensive game has dropped away too, so you probably wouldn't expect him to lock down a decent small forward.

At his best, he was a real game breaker, great long left foot kick, good run and carry etc - but this is 3 seasons ago now, he's what 25/26 now with back problems?

There's a reason why his future at WCE is borderline at the moment, I think the club will hold onto him, on the back of his good footy, if the Rookie List rule change comes through but it'd be on a one year deal.

If the Dogs were keen, Nico might see it as a better option and the Eagles are usually pretty accommodating for getting players where they want to be.

If i remmember nicoski was a half backer who could carry and had a big left foot kick on him. We have easton wood that will do better in that position, hopefully will play more games this year and cement his spot in the team. Sorry mark you can stay with the eagles.

On afl.com it states that Eade says that the doggies won't be picking up any more players. Pretty much now the mission is to sign and negotiate Johnson, Akermanis, Eagleton and any other uncontracted players yet to sign.

The fact he is more injury prone than Williams and Gumbleton put together says no. Talent no doubt, but we would never get the chance to see it.

Nope, Nicoski not in, Everitt stays and Eagleton stays.

Maybe Nicoski would have been a backstop if we'd lost Everitt, but Everitt will be a better defender than Nicoski ever would.
