Geez, um, Mark Waugh eh?

I really don't want to touch this with a 10 foot pole.

Because I have a feeling that he will come out and hit a high score in the next few games to silence the knockers.

Harvey can bowl.

So can Lehmann. Harvey very rarely gets wickets, he is a containment bowler. Lehmann's batting more than makes up for Harveys "skill" in batting, bowling and fielding.....

I see no one has mentioned the horrible ODI series Hayden is having, maybe he should stick to tests...

I always thought the idea of bowling in ODIs was to contain, especially at the end, when Harvey usually bowls. Can't imagine Lehmann filling that role.

Good on ya, Marky Mark! You sure showed all the knockers out there!!!

And Gilchrist didn't do too well either...maybe that's why Steve put himself in before Gilchrist on Sunday (it seems to me that Gilchrist hasn't been in very good form of late).

Mark Waugh is badly out of form and last nights innings showed that he's not far from being dropped, rather than showing he's getting back into form. The knockers were shown nothing by that innings to change our mind.
AS for Gilly, I think your statement shows extreme prejudice, but that's ok because fan's of any player will defend them on what they see. Gilly needs to be settled in a position, which I now hope will be opener. To suggest that the reason Steve Waugh went in ahead of Gilchrist was that he could do a better job of scoring quicker at the end of an innings is naive. True, Gilchrist has not been in the best form, but once settled it should all come back in a flurry of runs.

Yep,a great innings by Junior. He gets dropped,he gave a few edges towards slip & he was facing an undermaned bowling attack.

Give a guy the captaincy because he's so bloody good

Looks like Mark really startedto get some form back last night...he was really hitting the ball beautifully.

Pollock, Kluesener and Ntini have been bowling well in this series so I would hardly say they were totally undermanned. Even without Elworthy they are still good bowlers.

Yes he did get dropped early, but by the end of his innings you could see the form and confidence returning to Mark Waugh.

Don't forget that he was Australia's leading ODI batsman last year, and his outstanding form in 2001 was one of the main reasons Australia could string together 19 on the trot. Surely a man of that ability deserves a few chances when his form drops off a little....

Straight back to Dion Nash.

But he's back in form

yes, Mark Waugh showed his class against New Zealand tonite, a fantastic innings....

but lets not be too harsh on him, he did face 5 balls before getting out, that should count for something!!

How do you manage to single one player out for criticism when the entire batting order failed (again)?

I mean really what did Mark Waugh do that was any worse than Ponting's or Martyn's efforts.

Ponting has scored consistent runs, he has produced i think 2 half centuries and has been a decent run getter...

Martyn has made a century and used to play too far down the order to make any significant contribution

Mark Waugh however, has been opening in every game bar one and has done absolutely NOTHING. He has had so many chances it becoming a joke

.

if players like Hayden,Langer,Blewett & Lehmann were given as many chance as him when they failed,I wouldn't have a problem.

Exactly Fat Red, I would rather have the opposition at 0/200 after 50 overs than 9/280. Containment bowlers send the run rate up and pile on the pressure so that wickets fall at the other end.

hear hear!!

Hayden was dropped from the one day squad after scoring 20 runs in 2 games.... at that stage M.Waugh had scored 15 runs in 3 games

but he'll never be dropped now because he got a wicket yesterday and he scored a 50 in the series

JubJub's hit the nail on the head. Most people aren't anti Mark Waugh, just anti Mark Waugh's selection.

You can't look back on MW's career and remember the times he's scored hard runs for us. Over the past five years he's let us down way too often to deserve the opportunities the selectors have given him.

Jub Jub is spot on.
Funny how the bloke who has never wanted to bat higher than 4 in a test match has a lower career average than Hayden & Langer who have both been dropped continualy throughout their careers.
Still if he gets dropped he can go back to the "pitch & selection "info racket if he is hard up.
