With the chages to the Geelong team, our forwardline is going to like very different without Kingsley AND Playfair.
What will it look like? Is Lonergon capable to hold down CHF? What about NA? What happens when Otto goes in the ruck, will Mooney go foward or back? COuld Milburn play a permanant spot up forward for us?

One of those two are going to have to stand up...

I have a feeling that either Chappers or NA will kick 4. Lonners will kick 2. I dunno why i think this, but i just do.

This is Lonergons chance. He shouldnt care how he got the chance through injuries, he has played in the VFL and he has to stand up. McCarthys has past i believe, now its Lonergons turn.

WESTERN BULLDOGS
B: McMahon, Harris, Morris
HB: Montgomery, Grant, Griffen
C: Eagleton, West, Gilbee
HF: R.Murphy, Skipper, Giansiracusa
F: Robbins, Johnson, Hahn
FOLL: Street, Cross, Cooney
I/C: Boyd, Power, Ray, Smith

GEELONG
B: Milburn, Mooney, D.Johnson
HB: Rooke, Egan, Hunt
C: Enright, Bartel, Tenace
HF: G.Ablett, Lonergan, Kelly
F: Byrnes, N.Ablett, Chapman
FOLL: Ottens, Corey, Ling
I/C: Wojcinski, S.Johnson, Callan, Slade
EMG: Spencer, Gardiner, Mackie

The backline match ups will be interesting to say the least. My take:

Egan-Skipper
Mooney-Hahn
Milburn-Murphy
Hunt-B.Johnson
D.Johnson-Robbins
Slade-Giansiracusa

I would dearly love to use Milburn across HF to help negate the doggies run off half back but with Scarlett and Harley out I can't see anyone else that can match up on Murphy. I would use Rooke to tag Cooney in the midfield. Ling head to head with West. Under the circumstances, Hunt did well on Williams as a makeshift FB last week so he should get first crack on B.Johnson.

Forward line match ups:

Harris-NA
Grant-Lonergan
Griffen-Ablett
Morris-Chapman
Montgomery-Kelly
McMahon-SJ

Harris will murder Ablett but as long as he keeps him out of the play that will be a win to us. We need big games from the 5th and 6th forward which is likely to be Kelly and S.Johnson because the doggies will have Chapman and Ablett tightly marked.

The midfield is going to be the key as always. If we lose that battle we will get absolutely torched. Ottens, Corey, Ling and Bartel HAVE to beat their opponents for us to be a chance. Allowing the doggies to run the ball into the forward line unconcested will be a bloodbath.

Midfield matchups:

Ottens-Street
Ling-West
Bartel-Cross
Rooke-Cooney
Enright-Eagleton
Corey-Gilbee

Those last two worry me, the Corey's will be run off their feet by Eagleton and Gilbee. Tenace and Byrnes lack of defensive pressure and sh1tehouse footskills respectively will really hurt us.

Mooney surely will have to play the majority of the game in the ruck because Ottens won't have the tank. It almost seems like the team is one tall down in terms of flexibility. If either Blake or Spencer come in then the ruck problem is solved (ie. Mooney can play back with Blake in the ruck, or Mooney can play in the ruck with Spencer up back). Most importantly, it releases Ottens deep into the forward line and creates a match-up problem for the Dogs.

Don't worry about Joel mate, he is our hardest worker I reckon. (I know Ling covers alot of ground, but Smithy pushes harder).

As I have said in another thread NA must play in the square. Loners has been impressive across HF in the VFL. I have seen every game this year, and he has been the standout. Good chance for the big fella. If he makes the most of the opportunity he could make it hard for Hank. Gee Jack would be happy!

I've got a feeling we will try and stretch them for height up forward, so rather than Ottens going off to ret he might just rest in the square alongside NA.
