What do you think the chances are Matty having a shot in the draft again? He's pushing 25 years old, has had a rather solid season, good small mid fielder, captaincy experience, could be a crucial player for an AFL club looking to draft a ready made mid-fielder?.. He was on the Bomber's rookie list a few years back too, in case anyone is wondering.

Think I asked same question a little while ago- no reply, but what I've seen is always 100% effort.
Yeah, that's exactly what I'm talking about. He's got so much potential and is a good talker on the field. He's brilliant to watch. He's mad not going into the draft. Does anyone here know him personally and could probably whisper in his ear to tell him to have one last crack? His history should prove beyond a doubt he is ready made and dedicated. Plus he leads with all his might, always has that determined look about him.

Thanks for the response, sorry to hear no one responded to your question

Depends whether he wants to. From what I've seen is a solid little player with the ability and definitely has the right attitude, but a lot of guys playing VFL are happy at that level and don't want to go further. But if he wanted to push for a chance I think he might get one somewhere, particularly in the current draft landscape.

Would suit a team like Melbourne. Looking for that spark in the midfield. I would LOVE to see him play at senior level. Hope he doesn't end up being another James Byrne... :(

Agree...although I must say, there's nothing wrong with being James Byrne, he was a fantastic player and a great clubman :thumbsu:

last team i would have nominated. melbourne has a host of young and older mids and will probably dominate 2012 if not 2011. firman could be good for us. i don't know him but was actually speaking to his dad at box hill watching the 2's last year and i was commenting on how impressive this guy was. his dad, unknown to me, agreed and told me a little about him. impressive family.just goes to show you have to be careful about what you say at a game, you could well be in earshot of a players family etc. luckily i don't like canning players, except tenace occasionally after another errant kick in the past

A similar thing happened to me in 2003 I was sitting in what was then the Hickey Stand. Geelong were getting beaten and we were frustrated they weren't giving the younger players a go. I turned to my partner and said "Geez, I don't understand why they don't play James Bartel". The women in front of me turned around and said "I agree, with you I don't know why they don't either!". Turned out it was his Mum :p
