We saw that against Brisbane. A 100 point win and all of a sudden even Ray Hall looks a reasonable defender and Andy krakouer is amongst the goals.

West Coast tall defenders Glass, Graham, Hunter and Jones are hardly world beaters.

Adelaide's tall forwards Welsh, Perrie, Hentschell and McGregor are hardly world beaters either.

Both sides have dominant midfields.

Sydney have one decent tall forward in Barry Hall and as for tall defenders? Barry (184cm) conceeds height to Bowden.

Nicely put,

if you control the midfield you control the game

We need big backmen then maybe I should have been more specific.
People who can play on players like the CHF and Tall forwards of the other teams.

Pick up Leunberger or best available player with our 1st rounder and then try and lure Polak from Freo with our 2nd round pick (possibly throw in a Kel Moore as a backup tall) and then punt on a defender with our 3rd/lower level trade.

We would then have another quality young midfielder, a possibly excellent young KKP with Polak if he can get his head and body right and then a spare utility/backman.

That where I see our drafting anyway

Absolute rubbish. We desperately need some more quality midfielders, in particular a guy who can win the hard ball, but use it well also. We dont go in to the draft looking for a backmen with our first 2 picks, we try to find a good sized utility with our 3rd pick who can play back if need be, whilst our injurys heal. Our backline aint that bad when Newman, Kellaway, Thursfield, Hartigan etc are all available anyway, but our midfield sucks regardless.

Selwood.

1. You don't go in with 1st & 2nd and draft full backs. You draft KPP forwards, who, if fail become good defenders. Yes, there are rare examples the oppisite occuring but my first comment is the norm. Someone said Thursty - but he was a rookie pick, not 1st round let alone top 10.

2. Leunberger is going to want to be a deadset gun. ie. Cox / White / Simmonds type for us to get him with pick 7/8 in a strong draft.

i'd love selwood at richmond as i think he is definately one of the best midfielders in the draft(Gibbs is very good and looks very likely 2 go top 3), if not THE best.

do u think selwood would fall down 2 us tho at our 1st pick...most likely #7 - #9?

Say we don't go above Geelong & keep pick #7.

My (as well as most others) top 6 are:

Gumbleton
Hansen
Gibbs
Thorp
Sellar
Selwood

Might just miss him :(

unless either m.leueberger or j.riewoldt slipped in before him depending on whether clubs below us wanted tall rucks and KPP rather than midfielders.

desperately hope we can get him

I have a feeling that with us finishing 9/10, he may go earlier.

If not, a good option, his brothers play well. I still say that if we can get Sellar, we should take him, ditto Thorp, Hansen and Gumby. (not likely though)

It's been our defence at times which has really been leaky, three 100 losses tell the story. If Selwood is there, take him, but remember that if one of the top 4 KPP is on offer(mentionned above), grab him. A great KPP is like gold, invaluable to a team.

Above all else, I want:

1. Gumby
2. Hansen
3. Thorp

Now, that is (realisticly) not going to happen.

Bryce Gibbs would be fantastic, but again, those four will be long gone before our pick.

Most people seem to have those 4 as the top teir in this draft.

It looks like we are going to finsh about 9th, so thats pick 8. Sellar & Selwood seem to be the next line - either of those two (Sellar, whom many where saying was the outstanding player of the crop before an average championship, a good KPP/ruckman or a top 2 midfeidler in the draft, perhaps even the best?) I would be more than happy with.

Also, Foley and Tuck wont be enough matey, we need another who is also very damaging with the ball in hand.

Foley and Tuck are enough considering you can only have 3 players in the middle of the ground for the bounce.

What would the use be if all 3 were going in tough and giving it out to no-one

Nah Id rather have Tuck and a Selwood or something on the ground with Foley on the bench to swap with em. Then have Deledio Coughlan Hyde/JON/Meyer in the middle, Tambling swapping with Deledio. Foleys gonna be a good player, but we need an elite midfield to go anywhere. Doubt he will become elite.

Because in the real world there is no such thing as a player who plays all 100 minutes, and no players who take every bounce or stoppage. You need players to rotate through.

Dont talk sense around here Weaver theres no point, next you will be suggesting something logical like we need about 9 players who rotate throughout a match on the ball like most of the top teams in this competition

:p

Don't be silly Punter. All we need to do is go flat out for Wayne Carey this trading period. He'll be our saviour. You know it.

He does go alright...his problem is more who with and how often isnt it?

Hahaha, well Richmond had always had a strong sense of team and mateship, I dont think they'd mind "sharing" with Carey if it meant a premiership :D
