Should Panos be played on the forward line before the end of this season?

Isaac Smith was 20 when he was drafted by Hawthorn. He was actually playing reserves footy for Redan the year before being drafted. Phenomenal.

Harry Taylor was 21 when drafted by Geelong.

The Panos story is not unique, there are many.

The reason why is most of these kids are drafted as teens. You have a short period of time to make it. Maybe 3 years at most. So if you don't quite make it you are cast away at 21 or 22.

When do footballers peak. About 26 to 28. So after another 3 or 4 year of physical and mental development (growing up) many players are playing the best football of their lives. Many possible could be the standard of some of the kids getting games in the AFL system yet nobody is going to punt on someone for a 2 or 3 year reward without AFL experience. They getting better bang for buck taking a kid and hoping he gets 200 games or trading for an establish AFL player. Its just a reality of the system.
Also SANFL is garbage. Jordan Sweet and McNeil both very good players at that level.

Morris, M Boyd, Crameri also come to mind … and quite a few ruckmen.
Honestly it was quite a lot of our 2016 lineup.

The premiership side had Picken, Biggs (VFL before Syd from memory), Morris, Boyd, Dicko, with Campbell as emergency and Redpath and Adams injured.

Generally I still think the lower leagues are a bit untapped. With a bit of luck Panos might have been another like the above. Even in his time with us, while McCartney didn’t seem to rate him I think he was at least emergency once.
