Went out to the match at Carara on Friday, and as a Hawthorn fan wasn't particularly interested in a practice match between Richmond and Brisbane, but my mother was desperate to get a look at Ben Cousins so I decided to take her out. Anyway, we waited outside the rooms after the match for the players to emerge and thought the manner in which Richo conducted himself was just sensational. It was a real credit to the guy the enthausiasm he showed when signing autographs for the kids and what not. He put a smile on a lot of loyal fans who had been hanging around for a while. You definitely need guys like that around the club.

Anyway, you guys have gone up a few rungs on my pecking order now. Good luck and all the best in 09. :thumbsu:

He has always been kind to fans, even when we weren't so kind to him.

It sounds like a fairly standard encounter with the champ :thumbsu:

ALL HAIL RICHOMAN! He is the heart and soul of the club! How can you not love the man?

Wouldn't expect anything less from the great man.

A true gentleman of the game. :thumbsu:

Have you got this response pasted on your desktop PHX? I reckon you put this up word for word on every "Richo Love" thread - of which there are plenty.

Of course, you're 100% right. How many fans or admirers has this man landed us? Totally unique and stands head and shoulders above his fellow footballers.

No one in the club is as fan friendly as Richo, he just gets it that he isnt bigger then the club or the game he is always going out of his way to sign autographs.

There has never been a player as loved by opposition fans as richo has. He always has time for fans no matter what.

A true champ of the game. :thumbsu:

I remember asking Richo for a photo 12 years ago with my daughter. He thought it was just him and my girl and was quite amused when I set it on timer for me to get in the photo too(I wasn't going to miss that chance):thumbsu:

Wish I had a dollar for every story like this one. The question is - has there ever been a player loved more universally than Richo? You'd have to go back to Cazaly I reckon.

About 15 years ago a mate of mine was doing some work with a group similair to big brother organisation (not the tv show) .. he spent two afternoons/ evenings a week with a kid from very unfortunate background who was shall we say teetering on the brink of becoming a legit crim. All at the age of 14.

One day i told my mate to bring the kid down to punt road and we will watch the tigers train. I rang the club and said it would be great if a player or two have a word to the lad - not expecting anything.

We rolled up and watched training and then had kick on the ground afterwards.

I walked over to the players leaving the ground and asked if anyone knew anything about my request. Nobody knew anything about it but guess who was the first to say - "i'll talk to the kid" The great man himself - although back then the great man was all of 19 or 20 !!!

Over he came and spoke to the kid - spoke about life and chances it presents blah blah blah, then had a couple of kicks with the kid. Spent about 20 minutes with him and then took off back to the change rooms.

The kid has not gome on to be a brain surgeon or cancer specialist - just stuck at school went to uni and now holds down a normal office job and is paying off a house and thinking about the usual stuff one does in their late 20's marriage, kids, mortage etc.

The fact is he was a fly's foreskin from being a street kid/ petty crim. The time the great man took out to have a chat to him left an impression and the kid decided to take the path that was at the time looking quite remote.

The great man certainly is not the only person to have had this influence of people but it just goes to show that even at an early age he took the time to talk to the fans.

A real gentlemen. Always will sign autographs until everyone is gone. And like in Pj's case he helped change a life.:thumbsu:

You gotta love the big man
