Bad luck to Matty Bode, im a pretty big fan of his and I hope he gets himself right.

I actually think you would get some interest from clubs for him at trade time. You would probably be happy to get a late second rounder, most likely a third round pick.

I don't know if you would be happy with this, on one hand you get something in return but for memory you initially gave up pick #12 to get him.

"It is a major operation and may require six months of rehabilitation," Reid said. "If Matthew waited until the end of the season for surgery, he probably would have missed all of the pre-season period."
From that it sounds like Bode will be around for another year.

So my question is.... Can we put him on the long term injury list and if so who will we upgrade from the rookie list??
There seems little point in upgrading a rookie with so many others available for selection. But I suppose with there being a deadline (at least I think there's a deadline) for replacing injured players with rookies and never knowing what's going to happen in the future... it never hurts to have that extra bit of depth come finals time.

I'd say Nye, being the least raw of our rookies, is the most logical choice.

Can't see any reason to promote anyone. All our rookies are stuck in the reserves while we have a sizeable list of senior players making claims for selection.

And passed up the chance to draft Kane Cornes in the process.

YOu wouldn't put it past CHoco to pick Bode up in a trade or PSD. It just seems the type of thing he would do.

If he traded for Bode, he'd offer such rubbish it would evoke the heady days of the Chalmers-Downsborough swap.

And rightly so, Bode is overrated.

If he did genuinely want him then he has every right to try and get him for as little as he possibly can.

Answer:- Yes we can put him on the injury list and upgrade a rookie. This would only make sense if we had the intention of playing that rookie before the end of the year though.

I'd keep Bode on for another year. He's nowhere near as bad as many have painted him, although definitely not worth the #12 pick we gave for him. Not a soft player and does get in and under.

He's averaged more than 15 disposals in his 55 games with the Crows, but has been dogged with injury of late. Against the WCE he nearly got us up with an excellent last ditch solo effort.

We've got far worse players than Bode on our list, and a fit Bode gives us back-up depth for the mid-field in the event of injury.

But he would be on his last chance next year

All the indicators are that Bode will be delisted - with the only situation that will save him being he has a contract for 2006.

1. He is too slow
2. He has poor disposal
3. He is 26 years of age with two very interupted seasons behind him
4. He does not fit the Craig gameplan of hard running goal scoring midfielders who can run the lines.
5. Craig when the midfield coach under Ayres did not demonstrate much faith back then which has carried over into his term as senior coach
6. Craig has publicly stated there is not much midfield support behind Roo, Edwards, Macca and Goodwin also saying he needs to rejuvinate his midfield - Bode is not part of those plans!

Unfortunately I think that will be the end of Bode with the AFC, sad way to go out but I think at best Bode is a stop gap measure and with the young talent we have coming through there isnt much reason for him to be on the list.

Good Luck Matty Bode.

Well said - a great trier but found wanting!

i cant believe he wouldve agreed to the surgery and miss the whole season if he was in danger of delisting. thats the way i read it.

i mean he surely wouldve asked if he was gonna get offered a new contract. if the answer was no then why would the crows care if he missed the pre-season?

Slappy fact is he wasn't going to get an AFL game anyway with a bung shoulder so whats the loss?

Probably has asked the question and probably had a straight bat defence from management ;)

prolly not but if we got a few midfield injuries then he'd be in the mix.

however i think we have plenty worse than bode and i dont see neil craig having a clearout of 7/8 players. so provided the surgey goes ok i think he is safe.

This is difficult for me to admit, but if Bode is to go on as a crow he needs to transfer SANFL clubs and get out of the rabble that is the GFC. (I love the club but there are major problems)
I also doubt we would delist him as he does have trade value, (a Pagan case if I have ever seen one)
Funnily enough I don’t really care if he goes or stays, as I usually have strong opinions of our players. Just indifferent about the bloke.

I should probably post this on the regional board but I agree with you re the Bays are a rabble. I have listened to Peter Simmons on a few occasions and thought, have we ever had a more uninspiring coach?

Dunno about that,
Don't just tip your winners back em on footy punt ;) :D

Campbell did get us to a GF. Although I think it was back in the days of Kernas, McGuins, Hall etc.

Even Ayresy could have gotten us over the line with the list we had in 85-86 (the Kernahans, the Halls, the McGuinness, the Salisburys, the McDermotts).
