Matty Stokes

Matty has been sensational. Last week in the VFL he dominated out of the middle getting like 34 touches. He along with Prismall, Ablett and Gamble all look a cut above the rest so far at this level. He also seems to have a fair connection with Varcoe. THe bonus about stoker is that he will be very versitile. I can see him rotating through the midfield at afl level. His disposal looks good to and his pace is also awesome.

Geelong has had a godawful season but I think 99.9% of the posters on this board will agree that Stokesy has been one of the few shining lights and hopes for the future... The poor bugger is tiny, but christ he's hard at the footy and has got some serious skill and poise, something our regular midfielders/forwards are distinctly lacking these days. Pending injury, I'd say Stokes will play at least 15 games next year... For pick 60 odd IIRC he's been an absolute bargain signing.

I don't know about anyone else, but I thought the fist pumping show he put on after the KK assist was a pretty special moment.

this guy is gonna be a star in the afl, thats if bomber uses him proply as a rover in the midfield next year.

Stokesy has played some senior games this year and has proved a real revelation. He impressed the pants off everyone with his courage and his ball and goal sense. He has also been great in the VFL. He will definately cement a place in the senior side next year if he keeps it up.

I mentioned that in another thread. I dunno if he thought he'd kicked the goal or he was just excited over hitting KK in the goal square...but he was a very pumped up little cat after it :thumbsu:

Great to watch

Great to hear!

He was a gun for the Eagles over here, I was hoping the Crows would grab him, but I was just happy someone did.

He dominated the SANFL - his size was the only thing which could've stopped him being a regular AFL player, but he has a massive heart, tons of courage, and will run all day.

I'll be looking forward to seeing him playing a lot of games for you guys next year then.

Don't have to tell us. We know. Tough little critter.:thumbsu:

Based on this thread, I believe you :)

Often happens though, the VFL would be the same, that a player gets drafted from the SANFL and is never heard from again - great to hear Stokesy is making an impact.

I'm thinking it might be the first option.Nobody gets excited when KK takes a mark .....even if it is in the goal square.

Looks good. I have two concerns with him playing in the middle at AFL level. One his height could get exploited with his opponent going forward and two his engine doesn't seem that big.

Hopefully his engine improves for next season. Looks like he has that something special though. Would love him to turn into a Kerr

It'd be bloody good to see Stokesy playing the majority of his time up forward and occasionally rotating into the midfield to give Junior and Chappy a break. With SJ as a permanent small forward we'd look a lot more dangerous.
